I am a graduate of UC San Diego with a Bachelors of Science in Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, as well as a minor in Mathematics. I have multiple years of tutoring experience, helping students K-College in subjects such as chemistry, algebra1/2, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, ACT and SAT math, and earth sciences.
I focus a lot on breaking things down, not just simplifying the material itself, but figuring out how each student thinks and meeting them there. Everyone comes in with a different background and some explanations just won't land for certain people, so I keep adjusting until something works.
I try to make it clear early on that there are no stupid questions. A lot of students have been made to feel embarrassed about not understanding something, so getting them comfortable enough to actually speak up is half the battle.
I work with students across a pretty wide range of subjects including chemistry, earth sciences, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, and ACT and SAT math prep. One thing I've noticed across all of them is that struggles with the current material usually come down to a gap somewhere in the basics underneath it. Once you find that and fill it in, things start making a lot more sense pretty quickly.
