I specialize in one-on-one tutoring to help students read, write, and comprehend more effectively. I love working with students of all ages and levels to help boost their reading, writing, and comprehension skills--but more importantly, to teach them to be lifelong readers and learners in general.

I worked at Lindamood Bell Learning Processes for two years, where I was trained to teach reading from the ground up: building an awareness of letter sounds, familiarizing students with common prefixes, suffixes, vowel rules and expectancies, learning to recognize words, and working on fluency and contextual reading in long-form pieces of writing. I've also worked as a private tutor for more than a year, focusing on improving student's writing by bolstering their awareness of grammar and sentence structure, but also by encouraging them to take joy in the acts of both reading and writing.

I graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor's degree in English, and received a Master's degree in Creative Writing from Columbia University in 2016.

Energetic and Knowledgeable

Dane had a great lesson with my son. He was able to pick up on my son’s learning style and what he need as far as practice is conceded. I’m excited to see my sons growth.

Very Adaptable and Patient Tutor

My daughter has been working with Dane on basic reading and phonics for three months now. During that time we have transitioned from the regular learning schedule of daily school (in addition to tutoring) to summer vacation and we have moved halfway across the country and taken breaks for summer camp, etc. Dane has done an excellent job of adjusting the lesson content to include review and new materials depending on how frequently he is able to meet with my daughter and her ability (or sometimes lack thereof) to focus on the session that day. This adaptability has been key to my daughter continuing to advance in her phonics and reading skills even when life has been a little crazy. In addition, Dane does a great job of building a rapport with her. To describe her as reluctant to do reading tutoring at first would be an understatement; there were a few times she would end up sobbing in the floor at the thought of having to try to read. Now, every morning, she asks me about every five minutes “is it time for reading yet?”

Fantastic tutor!

My 15 yo has been doing sessions with Dane all summer. His reading speed, reading comprehension and writing skills have all very clearly improved. Dane is patient and engaging. My son actually enjoys the sessions! Dane uses multiple techniques, like imaging while reading, varying reading genres, adding vocab words, and writing short answers to summarize what's been read. We are going to continue with Dane once school starts because his help has been so beneficial.

So great!

Dane is awesome!! Highly recommend. He is upbeat and is able to engage my child with his reading. According to my 12 year old "He is lit." High praise coming from a 7th grader.

Knowledgeable and really connects with my son

My son has had two sessions with Dane so far and really enjoyed both. He looks forward to their time together and it's the first time he's also ever looked forward to reading. Dane speaks to him respectfully, really connects, and makes learning fun. Couldn't be more pleased! Thank you.
