I completed by undergraduate degree in 2016, which was a dual bachelors of science in Pathobiology and Animal Science, with a focus on pre-requisites for applying to veterinary medical schools. This required rigorous training in basic sciences like General Biology and General Chemistry, as well as more advanced courses including Cell Biology, Comparative Anatomy and Physiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Virology, Immunology, Histology, and Pathophysiology. I was accepted to veterinary schools but decided to find a career in scientific research instead. I pursued my PhD in Biology and Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Immunology and Microbiology, and defended my degree in early 2025. I now work as a postdoctoral fellow studying autoimmune disorders of the gastrointestinal system and the associated role of the intestinal microbiome.

I began teaching as a faculty member at multiple universities in 2021 and have continuously taught 2 - 5 courses every semester since. I have experience developing curricula and teaching general science courses, including Anatomy and Physiology, with both lecture and laboratory components. I also have extensive experience teaching in a one-on-one scenario as a horseback riding instructor since 2013; I like to joke that no classroom education has been as difficult or as harrowing as teaching students on 1500lb animals scared of their own shadows. My goal as an instructor and mentor is to learn and adapt to individual student learning styles and motivators, as a blanket approach to education does not suit every student's needs. It is important to me to trial different approaches, study techniques, and methods of presenting information in order to find what works best for a student, both in terms of boosting their self-confidence and in increasing grades. Considering the student's needs holistically has allowed me to support multiple struggling students through difficult courses and help them achieve better grades.

Thesis Writing

I have significant expertise in this area as a scientist. I wrote and submitted an undergraduate honors thesis based on research I performed at the University of Connecticut. Parts of this thesis were later published in the the journal Research in Veterinary Science. I then pursued and defended my PhD in Biology and Biomedical Sciences which necessitated the writing of a 200+ page thesis. Since defending I have edited and provided feedback on the theses of multiple colleagues. I also have non-thesis scientific writing experience including a first author publication in the Journal of Experimental Medicine.
