Hi, I'm Margaret! I have 11 years of experience tutoring students, both online and in person, in lots of different subjects. My specialty is helping people feel confident and comfortable with the material they're working on. After graduating from Swarthmore College with a BA in Latin and a minor in English Literature, I taught in a small college prep school for 5 years. I later went back to school and got a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and worked as a Registered Nurse for a few years. I have 2 grown kids, one of whom is genderfluid, so I'm comfortable with queer and genderqueer folx.

I have tutored dozens of students over the years, ranging from middle school to adult. But my favorite age is high school / young adult. My favorite subjects are math and test prep, because these are areas where I can best provide keys to unlock learning and understanding. These include new ways to understand and remember material, fun techniques for memorizing facts, and discovering ways to relate new material to things you already know about.

My former students describe me as friendly, patient and supportive with a great sense of humor. I'm good at boiling things down to just the essentials so they don't seem so complicated. And I'm good at giving you a solid base of knowledge to work from, including filling in any gaps you may have. In my experience if a student is having trouble understanding a subject, there's a reason for it. I enjoy working together to find out what the problem is and then developing strategies to combat it. The strategies are as varied as the students themselves - every person is different.

I will tailor every lesson and activity to your individual needs. I will seek out materials that will help you get where you need to go. And I'm flexible and available, so let's get started!
