About Jasper

Bio

I'm a Master's student currently wrapping up his thesis about jellyfish in harbors and am willing to give help in most life sciences. I have approximately 1-2 years of professional microbiology work, a degree in biology, finishing up another Master's degree in environmental sciences with a specialty in environmental ecology.

I currently work as an environmental analyst and have worked in my subject matter for over 15+ years.

I'm a Master's student currently wrapping up his thesis about jellyfish in harbors and am willing to give help in most life sciences. I have approximately 1-2 years of professional microbiology work, a degree in biology, finishing up another Master's degree in environmental sciences with a specialty in environmental ecology.

I currently work as an environmental analyst and have worked in my subject matter for over 15+ years.

I have been tutoring and teaching for students of all ages and background for about 2-3 years now. I have worked with students who were either afraid of science, didn't care about science, couldn't understand it or a combination of all three. So far, I've had good success in teaching and explaining ideas to the students. I find that in trying to teach someone, you have to inspire a small amount of passion in the subject at hand and more specifically, try and connect to the student. A tutor isn't for generic teaching, it's to get that type of one-on-one connection that can be tailored to the person needing a hand in the subject. This is what I try to bring to the table every time.

I scored a 1320 on my math and verbal/vocab with a 5 on my writing portion. I understand how to work with the GRE system to try and gain more points. You would be surprised how many points are missed up just do to test taking methodology.

Public speaking is one of my greatest strength and assets. Not only is it one of my major goals in science, but it is also something that I have been training in for a very long time. I have supplemented my experience with outside activities and curriculum. From 2002 to 2008, I have been training in giving professional presentations on a scholastic level, ranging from various topics of ecology to microbiology. From 2010 to 2012, I began teaching and giving daily presentations in a self run lab class consisting of 20 people at a time. I had to write, review, and improve my presentations on a frequent basis, driving me to becoming a better speaker while retaining a friendly and casual style. This enables me to interact with people without driving them away due to boredom or just sheer proselytizing behavior. From 2012 to current, I have been involved in town committees that require a lot of discussion and debate, requiring me to be able to sway people's opinions to my view. I also have been substituting from pre-K to 12, requiring knowledge of different formats of communication. I have been asked to come back repeatedly to different classes and "tough" classrooms due to my success in drawing in attention and keeping people focused. This is not an easy thing to do for a substitute on a sunny Friday in an inner city. Public speaking is my strongest asset. I am constantly refining and analyzing my ability to do so. I love to pass this knowledge on as I believe better communication leads to better pathways for everyone involved. I can help someone speak more confidently, understand finer points, reducing flaws, and letting a person actually enjoy public speaking. There are no secrets to it, just a better understanding.

My grandson was wildly unorganized and failing all of his classes. Within one organizational session, Jasper was able to get him organized but encouraged him to take responsibility and pride in his school work. Truly worked some magic. My grandson is now passing three of his classes, and I am sure he will have all of them to a A, B, C level before the end of this quarter. Can't recommend enough. Jasper is smart, savvy, intuitive and cares about his students (not the paycheck). We are blessed that we found him.
