Hello, my name is Abbey! I received my Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Harding University. I worked as a personal trainer and coach for 3 years post graduation and discovered that what I loved most about my job was teaching new skills. I began substitute teaching and returned to school at Western Governors University to earn a Bachelors in Biology Education as well as a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I have 7 years of teaching experience including middle school math, science, and STEM as well as high school science. I also spent two years teaching in a virtual independent study program where I tutored students in grades 7-12 in all subject areas.
It is important to me to understand my students learning styles to design lessons tailored to their needs. In the classroom setting, I always strove to prepare daily, differentiated lesson plans that included multiple activity segments focused on a variety of learning styles. This helped my students stay engaged with the lesson as well as receive the content in a variety of formats. As a tutor, I like to take a student-centered approach where I guide the student's learning through questions, discussion, and guided practice while still maintaining a lesson that is focused on the student's individual learning style.
Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have! I look forward scheduling lessons together.
