Hello! My name is Hunter, and I am a science teacher with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Ecology and a minor in Psychology from the University of Miami. I have classroom teaching experience in both middle and high school, where I’ve taught comprehensive science, physical science, and marine science. In addition to formal teaching, I have worked with students one-on-one and in small groups, helping them strengthen their foundations in math, science, and writing. These experiences have shown me the importance of adapting to each student’s learning style and building confidence through patience and encouragement.
My teaching philosophy is discussion-based. I focus on helping students understand the concepts behind the questions rather than just reaching the right answer. I believe that lasting success comes from truly grasping the “why” of a subject, which makes problem solving and test preparation much less intimidating. Recently, I scored a 500 on the Dental Admission Test (DAT), placing me in the top percentiles nationally. Preparing for this exam required me to develop efficient study strategies and break down complex material into manageable steps, skills that I now use to guide my students.
Beyond the classroom, I have experience as a research assistant in marine biology, a volunteer in both hospital and dental clinic settings, and as a mentor through national scholarship programs. These experiences have strengthened my ability to explain challenging topics clearly and to connect with learners from different backgrounds and age groups. Whether you are preparing for an upcoming exam, struggling with a tough science or math topic, or looking to improve your writing, I am committed to providing engaging and supportive tutoring that meets you where you are. I am available for online sessions as well as in-person sessions in Connecticut.
