The first time I took the ACT, I scored a 23. It was challenging balancing school and competing as a two-sport varsity athlete. Over time, I raised my score to a 35, earning a 36 in Reading and 35s in English, Math, and Science, while keeping a perfect GPA throughout high school. What made the biggest difference for me was realizing that the ACT isn’t really about how “smart” you are, but about understanding how the test works. It may sound counterintuitive but knowing how the test is structured is more important than knowing the content within the test.
I have experience tutoring high school students in ACT English, Math, Reading, and Science, as well as Algebra, mostly through one-on-one sessions with family friends over multiple summers. In those sessions, I focused on helping high school students spot common question patterns, avoid mistakes that cost easy points, and feel more confident going into the test. I also volunteered for eight years at a Korean immersion school, where I helped elementary students with basic math, reading, English, and Korean. That experience taught me how to explain things simply and adjust how I teach based on the student.
I am currently a civil engineering student and a nationally competing powerlifter at the United States Air Force Academy, where staying organized and managing time is a big part of daily life. When I tutor, I try to be structured but approachable, and I focus on building good study habits alongside test strategies. I emphasize consistency, effort, and balance, especially for students who are juggling school, sports, or other commitments. My goal is to help students improve their ACT scores while also giving them skills they can use beyond just one exam.
