Hi! My name is Jeannie and I am passionate about reading and writing. I remember as a little girl, my mom would send me to my room to clean. She would come back an hour or two later and find me sitting on the floor reading a book and no cleaning had been done. When I was in the fifth grade, my father used to take me to the University of Denver library to do research for papers I had to write. I have always been fascinated by people who could take their thoughts, imaginations and ideas and put them into amazing stories. That is what led me to my first career as a professional journalist. I spent about 16 years living in different places across the western United States working for newspapers and writing about everything from local governments to movie reviews, from the military to medicine and from firefighters to education.
I ended up doing a lot of stories about teachers and the amazing things they were doing in their classrooms. I also saw the amazing impact they were having on kids. I knew I wanted to have that kind of impact on the lives of young people. So, I went back to school and became an elementary school teacher. I spent 10 years in a classroom, and loved it. Right now, I am combining my writing skills and teaching skills and developing a writing curriculum.
I think what makes me a good tutor at math is the empathy I have for students who are struggling with math. I know how hard it can be at times, and I know that I learned math differently from other kids. Providing hands-on activities and incorporating art, can make doing math easier for children who are visual or kinesthetic learners.
Whether you are in elementary, middle or high school, I can help you become a better reader and writer. I have had extensive additional training in teaching reading and writing skills targeted towards helping those students who are struggling with success in these areas.
