Hi, my name is Mason H., and I currently attend the University of Colorado at Denver where I study commercial guitar. I teach all ages and difficulties in all styles, and specialize in jazz and fingerstyle guitar. While my lessons are based on each individual student’s needs and interests, I recognize the importance of music literacy and incorporate note reading, tablature reading, music theory, and learning repertoire in the student’s style of choice. We will explore the different components of fingerstyle guitar, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar as these components pertain to music basics and different music styles.
In my own playing, I am a jazz and fingerstyle guitarist based in Denver, CO. I graduated from the Denver School of the Arts, where I performed in the school’s top jazz combo and jazz workshop orchestra under the guidance of Denver greats Josh Quinlan and Greg Harris. Currently I am is attending the University of Colorado Denver for guitar performance, and have performed with the university’s premier ensembles The Claim Jumpers and The Guitar Ensemble. I have been fortunate enough to have studied privately with many world class musicians, including Sean McGowan, Tuck Andress, and Corey Christiansen, and my wide range of influences have enabled me to establish a voice on the guitar. I am an active performer, composer, and educator in the Denver music community, and can be seen performing regularly as a sideman, under my own name, or the name of my band.
