If you are curious about AI but aren’t sure where to begin—or you’ve tried tools like ChatGPT and wondered what all the excitement is about—I understand. I’m in my late 50s, and even after more than 30 years working with technology, I experienced my own hesitation, skepticism, and learning curve with generative AI. Over time, I found ways to make it genuinely useful for research, writing, presentations, learning, analysis, and everyday tasks. That experience also led me to write My Uneasy Partnership with AI, a book about both the possibilities and limitations I discovered while learning to work closely with AI.
Helping people understand technology has been a major part of my career. I have created and delivered training, developed educational content, mentored colleagues, and helped people with very different levels of technical experience become comfortable with unfamiliar tools and concepts. What I enjoy most is taking something that initially seems complicated or intimidating and helping someone reach the point where it makes sense.
If we work together, I won’t expect you to know AI terminology or arrive with perfectly written prompts. My tutoring style is patient, conversational, and hands-on. We can start with something you actually want to accomplish—researching a topic, improving your writing, planning a project, learning something new, working with a document, or simply understanding what ChatGPT can do. Along the way, I’ll show you how to provide useful context, improve weak answers, ask better follow-up questions, and recognize when AI may be wrong.
My goal isn’t to turn you into an AI expert. It’s to help you become comfortable and confident enough to make AI useful in your own work or life. No previous AI experience is required, and no question is too basic. I had to figure out how this technology fit into my own life and work too, and I’d be happy to help you do the same.
