I have been a tutor in the math center at Pikes Peak Community College for the past year. Starting my Junior year of high school, I started taking concurrent classes at Pikes Peak Community College. I took calculus I, II, and III. In all three courses I earned a high A. My calculus teacher thought I displayed an excellent understanding of the material and an enjoyment of helping others learn. She thought I seemed to explain concepts well to classmates during in-class group work. So, she recommended to me that I try tutoring at the college. My professor wrote a recommendation for me, and I went through the interview process to tutor. I got the tutoring job, and I started the math tutoring. I have very much enjoyed it. I love tutoring because I can help others understand the material, and I often learn from the sessions as well. As I help students with math, I have had a great review of everything which has strengthened my own math knowledge.
I enjoy the work, I like people, and I get satisfaction out of helping others to understand math. Also, I am constantly learning new ways to present and clarify material for students. Different people learn in various ways, and I enjoy exploring ways of catering to the varied types of learning. There are so many areas of math, and a set of rules that are universally true. It is satisfying to clarify misconceptions about the rules of math and to help others to understand it better.
