Teaching is what I love to do. To see one of my students have a "light bulb moment" is the greatest thing about this career. I was an elementary teacher (grades 2-3) for 5 years in the public school system, and I began offering 1-to-1 tutoring to students in 2006 as a 2nd job. In 2012, I left teaching, and began my own local full-time tutoring business. In 2015, I began online tutoring and loved it! I have truly found my calling for helping students regain their self-confidence, and helping parents feel at ease knowing their children are receiving tailored support that WORKS!

A vast majority of my clients seek out a tutor because they are tired of struggling every night trying to help with homework. Let me take that weight off of your shoulders! I specialize in teaching various methods for solving math problems (including common core or "new math") to find the method that works best for them! In fact, I have a YouTube channel devoted to just that!

When I first meet my students, most tell me that math is their worst subject. This is almost always due to low self-confidence and a lack of understanding of the foundational skills needed to be successful with their curriculum. It's my goal to meet them where they are with appropriately leveled practice, which helps them build confidence, and eventually LOVE math! So many of my students tell me that math is their favorite subject after working together.

My methods are simple, yet effective. I begin with an assessment of where the student is in a given subject area, then build up from there. I have found that most struggling students simply need to "fill in the gaps" in order to create a more solid foundation for learning.

I am very organized and professional, but also I have fun with my students and get to know them as well. I bring games and break up tutoring sessions with various activities, especially for the little ones. I do have several references, which are available upon request.

Thank you for reading my profile. I hope to work with you soon!

ADHD

ADHD

I have worked with many students with ADD and ADHD. This can be a challenging situation, and each student is different. I am currently tutoring a student with ADD, and 2 students with ADHD. Additionally, I have had students in my class in past years with ADHD. I try to work closely with parents in order to help their children become successful learners. I have a few techniques I use to help give students intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to perform at their best. I try to mix up the tutoring session with different activities, recognize "burn-out" before it begins, and give students plenty of opportunities to be successful. I've found that this really builds confidence and can make tutoring sessions move smoothly and students gain more from the work they've completed.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have good experience with algebra and have helped many students understand the process. Many times students just need additional practice in order to become proficient. Other times, students need an explanation of "why." I can provide help for both of those needs.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

While this is a "newer" subject that I am able to offer in tutoring, I feel confident I can help your student learn and understand Algebra 2. I have been taking classes on my own and working with students in the subject since 2020.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have worked with students with Autism for many years. Just this past year I had a student with Autism in my classroom and I worked closely with his mother, the VE specialist at the school and his speech therapist in order to give him the support he needed. Also, I have tutored students with Autism, one-on-one. While there are many spectra of Autism, I feel confident in my abilities to adapt my lessons to fit the needs of students with Autism.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I have tutored several students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia within the past 5 years. One of my most recent former students was diagnosed with dyslexia as well as ADD. I worked with him for 2 years and saw some great improvement with his decoding and reading abilities. Additionally, I have had students in my class who have been diagnosed with dyslexia. I use a differentiated approach to help these students become successful learners. My goal is to individualize their instruction in a way they can understand, and help to teach them how to approach things on their own in the future.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have just recently left the classroom (as of April 2012) where I was an elementary school teacher (2nd & 3rd grade) for the past 5 years. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education in 2006. Additionally, for more than 5 years, I worked for a private tutoring company after school and on weekends, working with primarily elementary students in all subject areas. Prior to teaching, I spent my Junior and Senior Internships in grades Kindergarten, 5th and 2nd. I also volunteered in a Pre-Kindergarten class over a span of 8 years while I was in high school and in college.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have been teaching elementary math both in the classroom as well as to individual tutoring students for more than 5 years. I have experience with Everyday Math, En Vision Math and Scott Foresman. Math looks very new and different these days to both students and parents. Many of my friends and family members come to me for advice on how to solve problems in the way that the program wants them to. I can definitely help with that, as well as teach students critical thinking skills for problem solving.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

As an elementary educator and tutor for the past 5 years I have had a lot of experience with teaching science to elementary school students. I realize that some students may not have the same love for science the way I do; however, I still try to make learning science fun.
English

English

I have several years of experience teaching English to language learners. There are many different influences from other languages, cultures and regions around the world. English is comprised of many different components, each one important to the others. I can help students see the relationships and find and identify "rules that don't follow the rules" within the English language.
Geometry

Geometry

Tutoring Geometry is a "newer" subject for me, but I have been working with students in this subject for the past few years. Building a reference sheet with postulates and theorems is a must! I can help your student learn these and apply them to proofs. Regular practice is a great way to gain confidence in this subject!
Grammar

Grammar

Grammar can be a very difficult subject to learn. With so many rules, it's hard to remember them all. I will admit that as I was growing up and going through school, grammar was not my favorite subject for those very same reasons. It wasn't until I became an educator that I began to feel comfortable with grammar. I feel as though I can identify with my students who are struggling with grammar and help them with the tricks and strategies I have learned myself. I use the same approach with grammar as I do with reading: I begin with the most basic of needs my student has and work up from there. I try to "fill the gaps" before moving on to more complicated structures.
Phonics

Phonics

I have worked with many students who needed help with phonemic awareness, and phonemic recognition. Many of my students in my class needed help "filling the gaps" with phonics before they could become successful readers. Phonics are such an important part of reading. Phonemic awareness is the foundation for strong readers and good comprehension skills.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra can be a confusing and frustrating subject for some students. I try to break down the steps and apply a "real-world" approach to learning not only HOW but WHY we need algebra. I feel that if students have a deeper understanding of number sense and critical thinking, then Algebra comes a lot easier to them. This approach has helped many of my students in the past. Most times, students just need a little extra practice and one-on-one coaching in order to become successful on their own.
Reading

Reading

Reading involves a lot of different components that all need to work together in order for a student to become a "good reader." When phonics and decoding skills are weak, it makes comprehension 10 times as difficult. No matter what age a student is, if there are "holes" in the foundation, reading will be more of a challenge. My approach is to begin with the most basic needs a student has and work up from there.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have worked with many students with various needs both academically and emotionally. As a former classroom teacher, many of my students came to school with a wide variety of needs and varying degrees of need in all subject areas. It was my job to differentiate my instruction to meet those needs. As a tutor, I am able to focus my attention on one student at a time, and adjust my teaching style, pace and material for that specific student.
Spelling

Spelling

I will be the first to admit that I was always a terrible speller in school. It wasn't until I became an educator myself that I learned many of the "tricks" to spelling. I feel that having this difficulty as a child really helps me to understand where my students are coming from when they are having the same challenges with spelling. I use mnemonic devices, helpful hints and other strategies to help students having difficulties with spelling.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a very important component of reading and writing and shows up on many state tests and entrance exams. My approach to vocabulary is exposure, exposure, exposure! I use repetition, related words and vocabulary used in context to help students learn and retain vocabulary knowledge.

Excellent Experience!

Working with Beth was an absolutely wonderful experience. When we moved to the area last summer, my daughter was effectively 2 grade levels behind in math and had deficiencies in some of the skill sets she had already learned. I had tried to help her, but the stress and frustration for both of us was negatively affecting our relationship. That's when we turned to WyzAnt and found Beth. At the beginning of the summer, Beth assessed her skill level and began the difficult task of helping my daughter to get back up to grade level. It worked! By the end of the summer, she demonstrated sufficient competency to enter at grade level (7th). My daughter who had such a bad view of math before tutoring with Beth came out of her second session and said she actually enjoyed math! We loved working with Beth because she is so kind, patient and understanding. We owe her a great deal of gratitude. She was a real life saver for us.

Laura, I really appreciate your review! I'm so glad I was able to help her get caught up before going back to school. She worked very hard throughout the summer! She's such a sweet young lady and a very hard worker! I love it when my students come out of tutoring with such a positive attitude towards a subject that they once dreaded. Yay!

Thoughtful and "Custom" tutor

Beth, is always looking to understand how our daughter best learns and gets her work done. As a result, Beth has been extremely thoughtful and creative in coming up with a specific tutoring plan that works for our daughter, which is awesome and greatly appreciated!

Elizabeth is very flexible and knowledgeable!

Elizabeth is helping my high school junior with a plan to improve her SAT scores. She helps ensure there is a plan and tactics in place to help my daughter focus on areas that she needs to improve. She is both easy to talk to and a great listener. I would highly recommend her.

Thank you so much for the review! She's doing a great job practicing for the SAT and has a great work ethic. I know she's going to do great!

We think she is AMAZING!! We have been using her as a tutor for over a year and half and my son thinks the world of her.

She has been working with my son with multiplication, division, word problems and reading comprehension. She is knowledgeable and is very patient. My son started seeing her when he was in the 2nd grade and he is now going into the 4th. I see such an improvement with his math, reading and confidence with himself.

I can't believe how much he has grown since 2nd grade! He comes in ready to do his very best every time, and his hard work is paying off! I'm so glad to see his confidence grow with each session. So glad we were able to continue this school year!

Knowledgeable tutor and Excellent learning environment.

Loved that she did math knowledge and skills evaluation to decide exactly where to begin with our son.

Great with my 8 year old

My son was excited about his first session. He said Elizabeth was very nice and friendly. He came home and finished his homework right away. It's great when someone can get an 8 yr old excited about reading and homework.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to work with your son this summer. We had a great time learning. He has so many stories! He was born to be a writer!

Makes learning fun

My daughter stated that Elizabeth manages to make math fun and that she wished her teachers would do the same.

Tutor responded:

I was really thrilled to get the chance to work with her again this summer. Thank you so much for bringing her again! She did a great job to really understand the math concepts that she was unclear on from the previous school year. Keep in touch and let me know how the school year is going!

Knowledgeable tutor

I was impressed that Elizabeth evaluated and assessed my son's writing and reading abilities to help target those areas he needs to work on. Within a few hours she sent me an overview of her assessment with recommendations. My son was hesitant about the tutoring but warmed up to her easily.

Tutor responded:

Thanks so much! He is so fun to work with. So many creative ideas, he just needed a way to get them out and on to paper! The book he wrote is a big hit with many of my other students, and gives them the drive to write one of their own. I really hope we can continue tutoring in January.

Perfect match for my daughter.

Elizabeth is very kind and welcoming which is very important for my daughter. She did an assessment and worked with us on what we have currently been doing in order to keep continuity. :)

Tutor responded:

Thanks so much for bringing her this summer! She is such a sweetheart. We had a lot of fun making up new phonics games and books!

Wonderful tutoring experience!

We are so pleased with the tutoring experience we had with Elizabeth for my 11 year old daughter. Elizabeth was professional, kind, & reassuring throughout the few months we used her services. I liked how she took a pre-assessment of my daughter's skills to know where to start, but also was very good about connecting with my daughter's teacher so that she could focus on areas of weakness. Elizabeth also helped with preparing my daughter for the STAAR test by focusing on specific areas of weakness, as well as test-taking strategies. We will definitely be reaching out to her again in the future when needed.
