I have over 20 years of successful experience as a tutor to students from upper elementary through high school and college. My education in engineering and computer science plus a professional career in engineering and leadership provide a solid background in most academic subjects plus standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, GED, etc). I have supported students with most learning styles and several learning differences (AD-HD and ASD included).

My approach is to meet the student where they are with patience and to determine what constitutes success for them. Establishing a sense of progress is vital to continued growth. One of my specialties is to identify and fill holes in math knowledge to allow success in whatever level of math the student is currently undertaking or to prepare for the next level through pre-calculus.

Students I have supported have been accepted into their first-choice college or university; have successfully completed classes with which they have been struggling; have successfully overcome obstacles to their academic success; and have charted the next step in their academic journey.

Bar Mitzvah

Bar Mitzvah

I had my Bar Mitzvah in the dark ages. Our daughter had her Bat Mitzvah and our son had his Bar Mitzvah more recently. My wife had her adult B'nai Mitzvah. I also co-taught Confirmation with our Rabbi for 3 years where I further developed skills in preparing students to lead services. The stress on students and families at these times is not unknown to me so I can relate plus lessen the load.
CBEST

CBEST

I took and passed the CBEST in order to earn my CA substitute teacher's credential. One of my tutoring specialties is test prep including the CBEST. I have a firm grasp of the subject content for the CBEST and can teach how to be successful to students preparing for the CBEST.
Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering

I have a Masters in Computer Science. Mt career includes over 30 years' experience in the computer and related industries. I mentor engineering students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at a local university.
Computer Science

Computer Science

My 35 years of engineering experience were focused on EE, computer science, and project engineering expertise. I helped the industry mature from the "home brew" computer club to it's position of leadership in our society. Learning the basic concepts is the place to start to arrive at a place of competence.
Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

In addition to BS and MS degrees, I have over 30 years of industry experience. For the past 3 years I have been a member of the Engineers in Residence (EIR) program at Colorado State University where I mentor students in both the basics of Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as specifics of their student projects. Projects include creating holograms, drone navigation and automatic recharging, and lasers for fusion.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have supported many students with a desire to improve executive functioning (Time Management, Organization, and Study Skills). Skills were improved in Time Management (daily, weekly, and monthly plans), organization (keeping track of both short-term and long-term assignments), completing all assignments and turning them in, plus Study Skills (identifying the types of tests and effectively preparing for them).
Interview Prep

Interview Prep

My 30+ years of engineering experience includes hiring over 100 people in various roles at all levels from administrative to director level. I also worked for 2 years as a recruiter placing many candidates in roles from individual contributor to vice-president levels. I was directly involved in the interview process for those who I hired plus prepped candidates that I represented for their interviews. Plus, I have prepped several candidates that I have mentored for interviews at various levels from new college grads to senior-level managers.
ISEE

ISEE

Over the years, I have supported a few students who were preparing to take the Independent School Entrance Exam. Each of them successfully passed and were able to attend the selective high school of their choice.
Logic

Logic

After earning a BS degree in EE, I worked for over 7 years doing large-scale digital design engineering projects for real-time visual image generation on aircraft simulators. This included data manipulation and computation as well as complex control subsystems. While working full time, I earned an MS degree in Computer Science. My next steps were project management and then general management of engineering groups.
Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365

I have been using Microsoft 365 for several years. It seems to be a good alternative to buying and using the individual components (Word, Excel, and Power Point). I was a user of the individual products before switching to 365 and haven't looked back.
Physical Science

Physical Science

I have taught 8th grade physical science and supported students with tutoring on several occasions. It is my favorite middle school science class.
Project Management

Project Management

I have over 20 years of technical project management experience in high-tech fields. Projects that I have managed have been small with only a few members to large with over 25 members. I am proficient with Microsoft Project plus have managed project costs in addition to project performance metrics. Project performance/content, schedule, and cost become a 3-legged stool that must be balanced in order to achieve success.
Robotics

Robotics

I have 4 years of coaching and teaching experience in competition-level, middle and high school robotics using VEX (certified instructor) and Rev components. This experience includes mechanical, electrical, software/programming (block code), sensors, vision, and competition strategy. My background also includes establishing robotics programs from scratch as well as introducing novices to the field.
