Hi and Hola. I'm Nicole! I graduated from Washington State University with a BA in Linguistics (I also had a double major in Spanish). After I graduated, I spent two years with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica where I taught English in the public schools, grades K-12. I also taught English in a local community school to students of all levels and ages through adults. My favorite part of this whole experience was getting to live with a host family who really helped to integrate me into the community and culture. While I was there I improved my Spanish skills to native fluency and fell in love with teaching. My students were the best and it was so wonderful to see them grow linguistically and as people.
My approach to language teaching and tutoring is very interactive and immersive. I am able to use text books as tools to learning, but I much prefer involving the students in their own learning. I talk to my students about what they want and need to learn, then I come up with engaging games, activities and/or outings to make language-learning practical and fun! Languages can be hard, but my Linguistics Degree, Peace Corps Technical Training, 4+ years of experience in school environments and and enthusiasm for languages have provided me with a wealth of resources, patience and skill in teaching both English and Spanish to students of all ages and abilities.
