I'm Alex! I have a PhD in Biology and have taught high school, college, and adult learners in both the classroom and out in the field. I'm passionate about biology, ecology, and conservation and about connecting people to the natural world. As a tutor and teacher I try to help people make connections by sharing my passion and by using real world examples.

I'm Alex! I have a PhD in Biology and have taught high school, college, and adult learners in both the classroom and out in the field. I'm passionate about biology, ecology, and conservation and about connecting people to the natural world. As a tutor and teacher I try to help people make connections by sharing my passion and by using real world examples.

I have a diverse background in the sciences. I have a Bachelor's in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut where I also completed the pre-med track. Instead of medical school I decided to pursue research and got a Master's in Environmental Science from Yale. Finally (!) I pursued a PhD in Zoology at Southern Illinois University before transferring to Florida International University to finish up. I work mostly on amphibians and reptiles throughout the United States and Latin America; but broadly I focus on conservation, disease ecology (and epidemiology), population genetics, and tropical biology. I've also been an EMT for more than a decade and have lots of physiology and anatomy background as well.

I work in research so my schedule is very flexible! I'm available mornings, nights, and weekends and prefer to do online tutoring, although may be able to meet in-person as well. I'm happy to modify my tutoring style to fit your needs and can provide assistance not only with test prep and material comprehension, but can assist with scientific writing, statistics, and basic computer coding.

I have an extensive, practical background in biostatistics. For my undergraduate and graduate work I have used a variety of biostatistical techniques to analyze small and large datasets. I am able to provide real world examples of how we use biostatistics to analyze data and make predictions.

I am completing a PhD in Biology where I focused on population genetics of amphibians. I have a broad genetics background, but my research is directed at understanding the impacts of population declines and recoveries on genetic structure of populations. I use a variety of theoretical and laboratory based approaches to study amphibian genetics.

I have conducted research on and worked with amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and invertebrates throughout my scientific career. While my specialty is herpetology, I have a broad background in zoology. I have taught field courses and classroom courses on ecology and zoology. I am also comfortable with basic botany.

Alex was able to help me with problems from my population genetics class. He was patient and explained everything in a way I could understand. I let him know which textbook I was using and he had his own copy to work alongside me. So happy to have a tutor such as Alex.

He offers great examples and helps you through the whole process of writing the paper. Alex is great! He’s helping me out with biostatistics which happens to be a new, and challenging subject for me. He is so good at breaking things down in an easy to understand way, and give real life examples. Most importantly he is super easy going, takes his time and doesn’t mind having to repeat concepts.
