I haven’t always had the best relationship with math. While I was naturally good at it, I lost motivation during COVID-19 and struggled to find meaning in what I was learning. It wasn’t until I became a student for AP Calculus BC during my sophomore year that I rediscovered my passion.
Now, as an incoming Mathematics and Computer Science student at the University of New Mexico, I want to help others develop the same appreciation for math. As a TA, I have worked one-on-one with students, created example problems, and designed digital resources to make learning more engaging. I also serve as the Secretary of the Science National Honor Society, mentoring students in research and competition prep. Beyond academics, my time as a lifeguard taught me how to communicate clearly and reassure students who may feel overwhelmed—whether in the water or in a math class.
I believe that anyone can succeed in math with the right approach. My goal as a tutor is not just to help students get the right answers but to build their confidence and problem-solving skills. By making math more intuitive and less intimidating, I hope to help students overcome their challenges and discover its beauty, just as I did.
