I love tutoring and my approach is three-fold. First, I help each person learn how to become more successful and independent lifelong learners. Second, each tutee should complete their assignments as much as possible before each session so we can identify and focus on specific trouble spots. Third, I work within the framework and scope of their primary mathematics teacher to supplement and augment what is happening in the classroom.

I have experience as a nationally certified tutor, tutoring in high school and college, as well as volunteer tutoring of the GED math tests. I have also taught middle and high school mathematics and instructed college mathematics. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults of all ages. My tutoring and teaching experience includes elementary school to grand parents in age, as well as non-traditional students, and Veterans.

I also teach university math remediation classes (AKA developmental education) as well as classes to bypass remediation by preparing for the Accuplacer/Compass admission tests.

I am familiar and comfortable with current technology (graphing calculators, computer algebra systems, computers, mathematics programming) as well distance learning (online homework and testing and MyMathLab, WebAssign, Khan Academy, Skype, etc.). WyzAnt has a great online platform for online tutoring.

In addition to tutoring online I enjoy working in person with each student. Meeting at local public libraries is ideal as some branches have reservable private and safe study rooms with white boards.

For each appointment the tutee needs to bring all their materials, text book, class notes, completed homework (as much as possible), specific questions for me, and any completed instructions from our previous session. If online homework is used in class then please bring a laptop. If you don't have one, there are often Chromebooks available for checkout at the library. One hour appoints are preferred because they allow more time for specific learning and growth.

Additionally, I can supplement or substitute regular homework with specific and tailored lesson plans.

Shortly after each session, I will report our progress and my obervations, including instructions for follow up.

I strongly recommend use of the WyzAnt app for easier communication and calendaring purposes.

I enjoy helping each tutee recognize that they are, in fact, capable of learning and succeeding in mathematics. I look forward to the opportunity to serve.

I do not tutor CMU/WCCC students in class levels that I at the time teach as I am employed as math faculty. I will, however, tutor CMU/WCCC students taking other class levels.

Thank you.

Additional Rates Policy:
1) If a session runs late, the additional time will be billed at the normal rate.
2) If a tutee requires specific or tailored instruction (ie lesson plans) in addition to the material supplied from the students own homework or classroom then a higher rate will be quoted and required (best method of all involved) or additional time will be billed at the advertised rate. This arises more during school breaks (summer).

Cancellation Policy:
1) If a student is more than 15 minutes late without any contact before the 15 minutes then a cancellation fee will be assessed for the entirety of the original appointment.
2) If a student is more than 15 minutes late with contact before the 15 minutes and the appointment can not be rescheduled a cancellation fee will be assessed for the entirety of the original appointment.
3) If a student is more than 15 minutes late with contact before the 15 minutes and the appointment can be rescheduled a cancellation fee will still be assessed for any percentage of the session at the tutors prerogative.
4) If a student is late (before the 15 minute mark) the session will still run to the scheduled time and be billed for the entire appointment.

Knowledgeable on the GRE and able to help where I needed it.

He was able to help me figure out where I needed help the most which was more on strategy rather than understanding the math itself. This will really help me in studying and such.

Life saver!

We were in need of a Pre-calc life line. As usual, procrastination, and then.... panic. But Nathan came to the rescue. He is a pro. First he was so patient with the technical hoops, and then he helped my daughter explaining this really tough subject. Well, she was the only one who could finish the test on the next day. The grade is not in yet, but I know it must be much better than it would have been possible BEFORE the lesson. Thanks, Nathan!!!

Great tutor

Nathan was very good with our daughter. He was easy to talk to, explained things well and had a very calm approach to the subject. He made it easy to work out difficult schedules. We would definitely use him again. Thanks a lot for your help, Nathan!
