I love tutoring and my approach is three-fold. First, I help each person learn how to become more successful and independent lifelong learners. Second, each student should complete their assignments as much as possible before each session so we can identify and focus on specific trouble spots. Third, I work within the framework and scope of their primary mathematics teacher to supplement and augment what is happening in the classroom.

I have experience as a nationally certified tutor, tutoring in high school and college, as well as volunteer tutoring of the GED math tests. I have also taught middle and high school mathematics and instructed college mathematics. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults of all ages. My tutoring and teaching experience includes elementary school to grandparents in age, as well as non-traditional students, and Veterans.

I also teach university math remediation classes (AKA developmental education) as well as classes to bypass remediation by preparing for the Accuplacer/Compass admission tests.

I am familiar and comfortable with current technology (graphing calculators, computer algebra systems, computers, mathematics programming) as well distance learning (online homework and testing and MyMathLab, WebAssign, Khan Academy, Skype, etc.). WyzAnt has a great online platform for online tutoring.

In addition to tutoring online, I enjoy working in person with each student.

We can meet in person at local libraries as they have reservable private and safe study rooms with whiteboards. We can also meet online. Both situations work great.

For each in-person appointment, the student needs to bring all their materials, textbook, class notes, completed homework (as much as possible), specific questions for me, and any completed instructions from our previous session. If online homework is used in class then please bring a laptop. If you don't have one, there are often Chromebooks available for checkout at the library. One hour appoints are preferred because they allow more time for specific learning and growth.

If both your homework is online and we meet then I request that you print to PDF your assignment and email it to me before our session. For higher level classes (Calculus 1 & 2, Stats, etc) please do this at least one day in advance.

Additionally, I can supplement or substitute regular homework with specific and tailored lesson plans.

Shortly after each session, I will report our progress and my observations, including instructions for follow up.

I strongly recommend the use of the WyzAnt app for easier communication and calendaring purposes.

I enjoy helping each student recognize that they are, in fact, capable of learning and succeeding in mathematics. I look forward to the opportunity to serve.

I do not tutor CMU/WCCC students in class levels that I at the time teach or students that I have taught in the past as I am employed as math faculty. I do tutor the following local CMU/WCCC classes; MATH 107 Career Math, MATH 108 Technical Mathematics, MATH 110 College Mathematics, MATH 113 College Algebra, MATH 119 Precalculus, MATH 121 Calculus for Business, MATH 130 Trigonometry, MATH 135 Engineering Calculus I, MATH 136 Engineering Calculus II, MATH 141 Analytical Geometry, MATH 146 Calculus for Biological Sciences, MATH 147 Introduction to Computer Algebra Systems, MATH 149 Honors Mathematics, MATH 150 Topics and Careers in Mathematics, MATH 151 Calculus I, MATH 152 Calculus II, MATH 240 Introduction to Advanced Mathematics, MATH 253 Calculus III, STAT 200 Probability and Statistics, STAT 215 Statistics for Social and Behavioral Sciences.

I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your math goals.

Came to the rescue!

Nathan was able to immediately jump in and help our son in Calculus 2. We were all of a sudden being told our son was failing this math class. Nathan worked with our son nightly, to prepare for his final. Nathan helped him to really understand the material. The positive experience my son gained from working with Nathan will help him in the future to confidentially seek help when he needs it. Thank you Nathan!
