I graduated from the School of Engineering and Biomedical Sciences at Pueblo County High School, where I graduated in the top four students of a class of approximately 300. I am currently a Harvey Presidential Scholar at Colorado School of Mines, where I am pursuing a degree in Business Engineering and expect to graduate in 2030. I am also currently a calculus tutor at Colorado School of Mines, where I help college students understand challenging calculus concepts and develop stronger problem-solving skills.
Throughout high school, I gained extensive tutoring and teaching experience. I founded my high school’s tutoring program and tutored students throughout all four years of high school. I have experience teaching students my own age, younger students, and elementary-aged children. I also served as a student teacher at my elementary school for two years, where I worked directly with children in an educational setting. When tutoring, I prefer a hands-on approach rather than simply giving students the answers. I work through assignments and practice problems with students, asking questions and encouraging them to follow the correct steps so I can make sure they understand what they are doing and why they are doing it.
My teaching approach is centered on patience, encouragement, and adapting to each student’s learning style. If a student does not understand a concept one way, I try to explain it using a different method or break the problem into smaller, more manageable steps. My experience tutoring students of different ages, combined with my current experience tutoring calculus at Colorado School of Mines, has prepared me to work effectively with a wide range of students. I am passionate about education and plan to pursue teaching licensure in the future.
