Hi! I have a B.S. in physics from the University of Northern Colorado. This is a career change for me - I was in sales and marketing for a few years before going back to pursue my love of science. I absolutely understand the fear of math and physics that so many students have - that's part of why I didn't do physics first!

Hi! I have a B.S. in physics from the University of Northern Colorado. This is a career change for me - I was in sales and marketing for a few years before going back to pursue my love of science. I absolutely understand the fear of math and physics that so many students have - that's part of why I didn't do physics first!

Pre-Covid I worked at the UNC Tutoring Center and held group sessions for Astronomy, Intro Physics, and Calculus. I also tutored individually in a wide range of intro math and science classes. The intro classes are my favorite to tutor/teach - I love the feeling I get when a student suddenly "gets it!"

I was also a physics lab teaching assistant and helped students understand the experiments they were performing. I have tutored a lot of pre-med students who need to take algebra-based physics I and II.

I've specifically tutored college algebra, calculus, discrete math, and linear algebra for students in math classes, as well as helping with math comprehension in physics courses. I've recently started tutoring high school math as well including geometry, algebra, calculus, pre-calculus, chemistry, and AP Physics.

If you think you can't, I promise you can. My philosophy is to always meet students where they are which sometimes means going back a few steps to understand the basics before we are able to move forward. I love a growth mindset philosophy that anyone can learn anything!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've been tutoring Algebra 1 for many years now. I know how intimidating it can be going from grade level math or pre-algebra to Algebra 1. It's a big step! I can work with any curriculum and offer prepatory lessons as well with Big Ideas Math, which is a popular textbook option in my area. I have workbook resources as well as lessons and videos available if needed outside tutoring hours. I'd love to help your child be successful in Algebra 1!
Astronomy

Astronomy

This is one of my favorite subjects to tutor! I especially love tutoring introductory astronomy - this material can be really intimidating if you're not familiar with some of the physics behind the concepts, but that's why I'm here! I have been an astronomy teaching assistant and have tutored this subject for over 3 years.
Calculus

Calculus

I have been a calculus tutor for almost 5 years. This is one of my favorite subjects to teach and tutor. I have a variety of textbooks and resources to guide students in their journey to mastering calculus!
Geometry

Geometry

I really fell in love with geometry when taking a college class called Modern Geometry where our entire class was meant to "discover" geometrical principles and concepts on our own through a combination of hands-on experiments and directly reading Euclid's Elements. I had never taken a class like this and was completely smitten by this method of learning and geometry itself. I try to teach the same way and guide students to discover and intuit geometry for themselves while still paying attention to textbook definitions and postulates.
Physics

Physics

I tutor college level physics and math classes. I've been a tutor for 3+ years.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I had a love/hate relationship with trigonometry while in college and only really learned to love trig once I started tutoring it! Take that as a sine (pun intended) that you can learn to love it too!

We found a gem!

Our daughter’s first session with Maya was great! She found Maya very personable and knowledgeable and really helped her understand her Alg 2/Trig class. She got so much out of the first session, we will definitely schedule more!

Intro to Physics college tutor

Maya was extremely helpful and patient with me. Will be scheduling another session with her. Thank you. I’m taking Physics1025 with my local community college. She explained concepts at a level where I did not feel lost or confused.

Patient and helpful in identifying knowledge gaps

Maya helped my daughter understand background concepts that my daughter didn't understand from her AP Physics class. She was patient and provided good visual supports. My daughter is extremely introverted and struggles connecting with new people. Maya was able to navigate that.

Very impressive first lesson!

Maya did a great job of learning the specific challenges our daughter is having in AP Calculus. Then she went over several problems and explained everything. She also white boarded out examples to help vizualize the problem. Our daughter was very excited after her lesson!

knowledgeable and patient

I just started using Wyzant and I have to say I’m so happy I found Maya. Right away she was able to work with my schedule and find a time that best fits us both. I am so glad I found her. Physics is so difficult for me to understand with the teacher I have at school. Maya was able to clarify the concepts for me. During our lesson, she asked me questions and gave examples to make sure I understood the material. She is great! It’s because of her, that I’m gaining more confidence in the subject. Thank you Maya!!
