I'm Dan! I'm a professional orchestral clarinetist with a passion for teaching clarinet and saxophone. I love working with beginners, intermediate, and advanced students alike. I have helped middle school, high school, and undergraduate clarinet and saxophone students prepare for auditions and playing in school ensembles. I have also worked with adult students learning music for the first time, and others who returned to playing after many years. I want to be your guide as you explore the classical, jazz, and popular music you love. I am continually amazed by the endless process of mastering music. There is always more to listen for and new depths of expression to be found.

While I attended the Eastman School of Music for my Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance, I performed in the world-famous Eastman Wind Ensemble and doubled on contrabass, bass, and eb clarinet. I can be heard on the recently released EWE recording "Images". At Eastman I also developed my saxophone skills through lessons with undergraduate and graduate saxophone students from the Eastman Saxophone Project, a group which performs entirely from memory without a conductor.

My goal as a teacher is to develop a secure, trusting relationship with each of my students. I aim to provide you or your child with structured lessons and assignments that support creativity and exploration of music. It's very important to me to learn each student's unique learning style, personality, and musical interests so I can best help you to grow your skills, confidence, and love of music.

When I'm not teaching clarinet and saxophone, I also perform regularly on clarinet with the Greeley Philharmonic and Fort Collins & Cheyenne Symphonies.

I look forward to helping you or your child develop music skills and confidence on the clarinet or saxophone as we learn and play the music you love!

During my Master of Music in Clarinet Performance degree at CU Boulder I was a teaching assistant of Daniel Silver. Amazing teacher!

One thing I really appreciate about Fan is his musicianship. He’s not only a great instructor of technique, but someone who keeps artistry and expression at the forefront. Anyone can learn to play notes, but becoming a musician is so much more. Dan is a master at both!

Knowledgeable, attentive and creative tutor

My 7 year old learns to play saxophone with Dan. He has been amazing at engaging her teaching her both theory and practice. It is not always easy to relate to young kids world and keep them interested and excited, yet, Dan does great job at that Highly recommended!

Excellent Virtual Tutor - Great with Teens

My 16 year old daughter really enjoyed her tutoring session with Dan. Our session was virtual, and it did not present any boundaries to learning. He asked her lots of questions to get her engaged and had her do lots of exercises on the Clarinet. She loved her lesson so much, she was practicing even after the lesson was over. He provides materials for practice and lessons.

Very knowledgeable and thorough.

Dan spent time getting to know me, my history, and my goals, We reviewed the basics and made a great start. I can tell that Dan has a love of music, so couple that with his teaching experience and I look forward to working with him in the future.
