The important thing is that the learning is "active". This means that the student is solving problems, whose level of difficulty is dependent upon his or her responses to previous problems. Of course the tutor must explain when the student does not understand, or in the case that the student has never seen the material--but simply listening to the tutor gives rise to "passive" learning. which is not conducive to long-term memorization. If we want to drive a car, we must have a considerable amount of practice ourselves. Merely watching someone else drive will not be sufficient.
