Hi! I’m Jacob, a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Georgia. I have more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science, with a primary focus on Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, SAT Math, and ACT Math.

I have tutored students in honors math, college-level science, chemistry, biology, and calculus, and I have worked with students who benefit from extra structure, patience, or alternative explanations. My approach is individualized and step-by-step: I focus on helping students understand why a method works instead of simply memorizing procedures.

My PhD research is in neuroscience, with a focus on neuronal transport, synaptic function, microtubules, and aging. I also have prior consulting and academic mentoring experience, including helping students think through degree programs and career paths and translating complex scientific ideas into clear, practical explanations.

In addition to course content, I often help students strengthen organization, study planning, test preparation, timed practice, accountability, and problem-solving habits. I prefer one-on-one tutoring because it allows me to identify exactly where a student is struggling and adapt the session to how that student learns best.

My goal is not only to help with the next homework assignment or exam, but to build confidence and stronger skills that carry into future courses. I also tutor introductory Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I am a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University with more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science. I help students prepare for ACT Math by strengthening algebra, geometry, functions, probability, statistics, and trigonometry while also teaching efficient test-taking strategies. I focus on identifying the specific question types and concepts costing a student points, then building speed, accuracy, and confidence through targeted practice. My goal is to help students improve both their math skills and their ability to manage the pace and structure of the ACT.
ADHD

ADHD

I have several years of tutoring experience and have worked directly with students with ADHD across math and science subjects. Through this experience, I have learned to adapt lessons to each student’s attention, processing, and learning style by breaking complex material into manageable steps and using clear, engaging explanations. I focus on creating structure, maintaining momentum, and helping students develop strategies for organization, problem-solving, and independent learning. My background in bioengineering, neuroscience research, and student mentoring also gives me a strong understanding of how differently students can learn and process information.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science, including running my own tutoring business before beginning graduate school. I am currently a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University and have a strong quantitative background in algebra, calculus, statistics, and scientific problem solving. I focus on breaking difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps and helping students understand why a method works rather than just memorizing procedures. I have also worked with students who need extra structure, confidence, or a different explanation to make the material click.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science, including running my own tutoring business before beginning graduate school. I am currently a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University and have a strong quantitative background in algebra, calculus, statistics, and scientific problem solving. I focus on breaking difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps and helping students understand why a method works rather than just memorizing procedures. I have also worked with students who need extra structure, confidence, or a different explanation to make the material click.
Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I am a PhD researcher in Bioengineering with hands-on experience using biostatistics to analyze biological and biomedical research data. My work includes statistical analysis of gene-expression and aging datasets, interpretation of effect sizes and significance, cross-dataset comparisons, visualization, and working in R. I can help students understand both the mathematical foundations of biostatistics and how statistical methods are applied to real biological questions. I focus on making topics such as hypothesis testing, regression, probability, confidence intervals, and data interpretation easier to understand through clear, step-by-step explanations.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience and have worked with younger students building the foundational skills they need for later math courses. I focus on making math feel less intimidating by breaking problems into simple steps and explaining concepts in more than one way when needed. I have experience helping students strengthen arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, word problems, and early pre-algebra skills. My goal is to help students improve both their understanding and their confidence so they are better prepared for the next level of math.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I am a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University with more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science. I help students build a strong foundation in fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, negative numbers, equations, inequalities, and word problems so they are prepared for Algebra 1. My approach is patient and step-by-step, with an emphasis on understanding why a method works instead of just memorizing procedures. I especially enjoy helping students who feel behind in math rebuild confidence and develop the skills they need for higher-level coursework.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I am a Bioengineering PhD student at Colorado State University with more than six years of one-on-one tutoring experience in math and science. I tutor precalculus topics including functions, polynomial and rational expressions, exponentials and logarithms, trigonometry, systems of equations, and preparation for calculus. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind each method rather than relying on memorized steps, and I break difficult problems into clear, manageable pieces. My goal is to strengthen both problem-solving ability and confidence so students are prepared for exams and for the transition into calculus.
