My name is Deb. I have 28 years of teaching experience. I have a Masters in Instructional Design with technology. I also love science and have an extensive college background in biology. I am an excellent user of the English language, write and communicate very well which gives me the ability to tutor in this area as well. I have many teaching tools, such as hands-on activities, diagramming, questioning, and working backwards which allow me to be versatile as a tutor.
I have tutored privately for more than 20 years and have tutored several students all throughout their high school experiences. I am technology savvy, am willing to learn or explore the tools that work best for you, and will work as hard as you do. I think of myself as a team member when teaching or tutoring. Our work together is the key to your success.
I love learning, and because I do, I am excited to help you find success in learning. I am a kind, perceptive person. I want to support, facilitate and show you, my student, how to master the ideas you are desiring to truly learn. I am patient and have a great sense of humor, which makes the process fun! I can ask questions to help you find solutions to problems and I will answer questions when you ask. We will take as much time as you need, we will do and redo ideas until they make sense to you. I will be truthful because honesty is a priority. I want you to trust me and what I know as well trusting what you know.

I recently taught 4 Advanced Algebra 2 classes who tested extremely well on their final for the semester. I can explain, show, help with practice, and instill confidence in the skills a student needs to be successful. I understand the mathematics which precedes Algebra 2 so well that I can connect the new learning to the previous learning. I am confident with my vocabulary, my number sense, and my critical thinking which allows me to see where students struggle, excel, and every place in between.

I have taught Prealgebra for 18 years in the classroom. I can make solving and graphing equations easy to understand, have the skills to discover what is missing for a student, and the patience to teach and reteach as much as is needed.

I have an elementary teaching license which includes reading and ELA. I taught reading to seventh grade students for 6 years. My students read, improved their grade level reading, comprehension, and recall every year. Each student's learning varied because each student is different. I also taught in a school that was created for students with language-based learning disabilities and our focus was on comprehension, recall, reading out loud, learning to decode words, and strategies for doing all of those skills. Students were supported and improved significantly because of the focus.

Excellent tutor

We found Deb and asked her to evaluate our daughter to make sure she was prepared for middle school. She and my daughter connected and work well together. She is a great tutor and knows exactly how to get my daughter to understand the material they are working on. I highly recommend her!
