My name is Nathan, and I am a recent graduate of Colorado State University where I earned a master’s in biology with a GPA of 3.92, specializing in behavioral genetics and evolution. At CSU, I taught Introduction to Biology and Animal Biology laboratory courses for three years, and I have 2 years of one-on-one tutoring experience in college-level Evolution and middle-school Spanish. I have completed two graduate-level courses in science education principles and pedagogical practices. I also co-founded and served as president of an ecology and sustainability education non-profit for local high schoolers, where I connected students with scientists in their community, gave lectures, and developed interactive and hands-on educational experiences. I previously completed a BS in Biology at Lewis & Clark College, where I excelled in a wide variety of biology courses, including but not limited to physiology, ecology, marine biology, plant biology, evolution, and genetics. These experiences have afforded me a wide knowledge base in biology that I am eager to share with my students.
I live in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I spend my free time hiking, running, climbing, or scuba diving in our mountain lakes. I also enjoy playing chess, videogames, and reading in my down time. As a tutor, I aim to build students' confidence and nurture a growth mindset while providing them with the tools to take control of their educational experience. As a student, I took note of how my instructors’ methods made me feel engaged, empowered, and included in a learning environment. I strive to use these lessons in my own career as an educator to foster a similar atmosphere for my students.
Lastly, I recognize that science can be an intimidating subject, but I assure you that with the right tutor and a growth mindset, you will be amazed by what you can accomplish. I am eager to meet you and embark on this journey together. Please reach out with any questions, and I hope to see you soon!
