About Elliott

Bio

I love mathematics because it offers us the chance to explore the universe with nothing more than a pen and pad of paper. I love teaching mathematics because it can be so difficult and exasperating for students, but it has the potential to also be so integral to their success. Patterns are everywhere! Helping students explore, enjoy, and apply those patterns is a small but significant way that I can help them thrive in all of life.

I earned a BS in Mathematics from California Baptist University in 2016 and an MS in Mathematics from the University of California in 2019. While in graduate school I was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. I’m an active member of the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences, and at this year’s conference I gave a talk on the philosophy of topology. In 2022, I authored Math 1: God’s Gift of Numbers, an elementary primer to mathematical patterns through Generations, a publisher focused on supporting home schooling. Since then I have been involved in the development of five more texts in the same series.

Apart from all that, I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics and physics for over 10 years in various contexts and with various titles. As a graduate teaching assistant at the University of California, I lectured in almost every lower-division college math course. As an adjunct professor at California Baptist University, I taught integral calculus and college algebra online. As a middle school math teacher at Ridgeview Classical Schools, I taught 7th and 8th graders and tutored elementary school students. As an instructor at a technical college, I taught adult learners.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

My favorite subject in mathematics is algebra and the patterns that underlie how numbers come together!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

My favorite subject in mathematics is algebra and the patterns that underlie how numbers come together!
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I authored a first grade math curriculum with Generations: Passing on the Faith, and am currently assisting in the development of grades two through six.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I taught prealgebra to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for one year at Ridgeview Classical Schools in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I love algebra (the patterns of how numbers come together), and I love calculus (the patterns of continuous change). Precalculus is the special place where those patterns of numbers become the foundation for those patterns of change!
