Learning to Read and Spell with Patience

I have tutored individuals of all ages in reading and spelling for 5 years. I have found success using a program which is direct, multi sensory, explicit and structured. It is influenced by Orton Gillingham, and is research and evidence based. My students appreciate my patience and flexibility. Many of my students are dyslexic, but not all of them. I have also tutored children with ADHD. I have tutored on line since COVID.

I graduated from Kansas State University with a BS Degree in Business/Accounting. I enjoyed a 30 year career in this field as an auditor, consultant, and expert witness. After retirement I found that I had acquired the strong communication skills of a successful tutor.

I completed Basic Instructor Training Courses while working, and acquired the communication skills to train the general public as well as my peers in business laws and regulations. Upper management levels used me as their ghost writer.

As an expert witness in Federal Courts I was required to reduce complex business structures and laws to a simple explanation that a jury of the general public could understand. I find this is akin to tutoring the difficult subjects of reading and spelling by keeping it simple.

I raised a son and daughter who have highly successful careers, which I attribute to tutoring I gave them in reading and writing throughout their school years. My children, as well as those I tutor, greatly value my patience and humor. This has given them confidence to survive in our world with the ability to read and write.
