I have been tutoring since high school, and I still enjoy tutoring now that I am retired! It is an awesome feeling to help a student who has been struggling with a problem or concept to "get it".

I have been tutoring since high school, and I still enjoy tutoring now that I am retired! It is an awesome feeling to help a student who has been struggling with a problem or concept to "get it".

For most of my career I have used math, physics, and statistics to solve real-world problems. This allows me to bring a lot of practical experience to tutoring, in addition to a purely academic one. That said, I do have a strong academic background as well, including a PhD in physics from Caltech. During my time in physics I taught several courses and summer programs in physics, ranging from introductory physics to more advanced topics. After completing my PhD, I briefly worked as a physics professor and instructor, but then moved into quantitative finance. During my 30-year career in quantitative finance I used math and statistics to identify potential biases in hiring and compensation practices, detect fraud, quantify interest rate and credit risk, and manage investment portfolios. A particularly important and enjoyable aspect of my work involved explaining sophisticated quantitative concepts to audiences with no or little technical training.

My tutoring philosophy is to identify and overcome any mental blocks students may have understanding the material. This helps students not only get through challenging assignments and tests, but also strengthens their quantitative reasoning abilities that they can then apply to many real-life practical situations in the future!

I am passionate about breaking down seemingly complex problems into intuitive, bite-sized pieces. So, if that is something that appeals to you, please contact me!

Great tutor!

I have been struggling to pass my Physics test for couple years now and Marc helped me get there! Finally! I really appreciated how Marc went above and beyond with my learning. He sent me extra practice problems along with elaborating on questions I had through the chat. I felt he truly cared about me learning and making progress. He knows tons about Physics and he was very patient with me (even when it took me awhile to grasp a concept). Thank you Marc!

Thorough and well explained!

He did a great explanation for topics, helped me with visualizing problems, and ways to approach them. In just an hour, I feel confident with the math that was a bit difficult for me before the session.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

I spoke to Marc before our lesson began and explained how I have struggled with statistics. He was so patient with me and answered every question no matter how small. I have booked him every week for the remainder of my course!

Knowledgable, Patient, and Effective Tutor

Marc was thorough and took careful measures, including asking open-ended questions to ensure my daughter grasped the concepts. She felt like she learned so much from the first session. He gave good examples to help her understand and learn formulas. Marc exceeded my expectations by assisting her with a plan for practicing, and letting him review her work before test day to ensure she gets it! We found a gem tutor and are very happy to work with him. My daughter is not stressed and can now focus on learning with Marc.

Thank you so much, in a pinch!

Marc jumped right into a last minute AP mock exam tutoring session with my daughter - helped her review material where she was struggling, gave her some great pointers and got her in the right headspace for success. Excellent investment!

Knowledgable and patient

Displayed knowledge on topics not gone over by college professor that appeared on assigned homework. Was able to guide me through the steps on how to find a solution.

Clearly knowledgeable enough to help me.

I gave Marc a difficult starting point. I am not currently enrolled in a class, so there is no clear starting point. Marc was patient with me in this, helping me to find a good starting point. I look forward to seeing how much he can help me learn.

Great tutor

Marc taught me probability and applications for my stats class. He was patient and made sure that I understood the concept sometimes re-explaining a topic when needed.
