Educational background: I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in Spanish and Women's Studies. Next, I completed my teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach, with an emphasis in multilingual education and K-8 curriculum. Most recently, I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction.
Previous teaching experience: I have two years of experience co-teaching and completing my practicum hours in elementary school (kindergarten and 4th grade). I taught middle school for seven years (6-8th grade teaching History-Social Studies, English Language Development, Spanish Elective, and Integrated Science). Most recently, I am teaching 9th/10th-grade pre-algebra and Academic Support at the high school.
My teaching methods/approaches: I believe students learn best by engaging in various strategies to activate prior knowledge and make connections to the real world. After I analyze the learning gaps and assess the students' strengths, I can determine the best plan of action to meet the learning targets and be successful.
Contextual details: I have experience with students ranging from preschool to high school in small group settings to self-contained classroom sizes (between 5-36 students). I have experience volunteering in preschool classes, coaching soccer, cheer and dance. I have children of my own as well, so I am constantly trying to engage them academically and improve their self-confidence in and out of the classroom.
