Hi! I’m Anissa! I'm a dedicated educator and math tutor with over seven years of experience helping students gain confidence and truly understand what they’re learning. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a concentration in Mathematics. After college, I went on to teach for three years in the classroom, working with kindergarten, third-grade, and fourth-grade students. During that time, I developed a strong understanding of how to break down complex ideas into simple, engaging lessons that make sense for every learner.

My tutoring experience spans from elementary students just starting out in math to college students tackling advanced courses like calculus. I enjoy adapting my approach to each student’s unique needs, whether that means using visuals and games for younger learners or step-by-step problem solving and test prep strategies for older students. I’ve worked with students on homework support, concept review, and building study habits that last beyond one assignment or test.

As a former classroom teacher, I know how important it is to make students feel comfortable and supported. I always strive to create a positive learning environment where questions are encouraged, mistakes are seen as part of learning, and students feel empowered to take ownership of their progress.

I truly believe that every student is capable of success in math - they just need the right tools, encouragement, and explanations that make sense to them. My goal as a tutor is to help each student discover that they can do it, and to build the confidence and skills to prove it.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is a foundational subject that I use every day in my tutoring of higher-level math, so I’m very familiar with its concepts and applications. I love teaching Algebra 1 because it’s a building block for everything that comes after, from geometry and pre-calculus to calculus, and mastering it early makes future math much more approachable. I have over seven years of tutoring experience across all levels of math, and I’ve worked with many students who struggled with Algebra 1. I help them master foundational skills, strengthen problem-solving strategies, and gain confidence in their abilities. My approach focuses on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring concepts at their own pace. My goal is for students to truly understand the concepts, not just memorize steps, so they are prepared for success in all future math courses. I bring patience, clarity, and enthusiasm to every session and love celebrating the “aha” moments when a student finally grasps a tricky concept.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a subject I enjoy teaching because it builds on foundational math skills and prepares students for Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and beyond. I’m currently working with students in Algebra 2, which keeps my skills sharp and allows me to stay familiar with the challenges students face in this course. With over seven years of tutoring experience from elementary through college-level math, I help students master concepts, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build confidence in their abilities. I focus on creating a supportive, engaging learning environment where students can ask questions freely, explore new strategies, and fully understand the material. I emphasize understanding the “why” behind the concepts so that students not only succeed in Algebra 2, but are also well-prepared for higher-level math courses. I bring patience, clarity, and enthusiasm to every session and love seeing students achieve those “aha” moments that make math click.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite subjects to teach! I I’ve been tutoring Calculus for the past five years, working with high school students in AP Calculus AB as well as college students in Business Calculus, regular Calculus, and beyond. I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam in high school and earned A’s in all of my college Calculus courses (Calc 2–4), so I have a strong grasp of the material from both a student and teacher perspective. I’m also currently retaking Calculus 1 at CU Boulder to refine my skills and stay up to date with the latest practices and teaching methods. In college, I tutored students who were struggling with Calculus, and since then I’ve continued helping students at all levels, including a student at Princeton University. I focus on strengthening problem-solving skills, building conceptual understanding, and preparing students for exams. I bring patience, clarity, and real enthusiasm to every session, and I love helping students see the “aha” moments that make Calculus click.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I’m a passionate educator with three years of classroom teaching experience, working with kindergarten, third, and fourth grade students. I studied Education in college, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a focus on teaching and a concentration in math. I also hold multiple subject teaching credentials in California, Washington, and Colorado. During my teaching career, I designed and delivered engaging lessons in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies, using up-to-date instructional practices to meet the needs of diverse learners. I bring the same approach to tutoring, creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment where students feel confident asking questions, exploring concepts, and building foundational skills that will help them succeed in all subjects.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus is a subject I really enjoy teaching because it’s the bridge between algebra/geometry and calculus, and mastering it makes future math so much more accessible! I have a very strong understanding of Pre-Calculus, supported by my extensive Calculus background (I earned A’s in all of my college Calculus courses and scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam in high school). I’ve been tutoring Pre-Calculus for several years, working with students at all levels, from those just building their foundational skills to students taking AP Pre-Calculus. I focus on helping students strengthen problem-solving skills, develop conceptual understanding, and gain confidence in their abilities. My goal is to make Pre-Calculus engaging and approachable while preparing students for success in future math courses. I bring patience, clarity, and enthusiasm to every session and love helping students see how the concepts in Pre-Calculus connect to the bigger picture of mathematics.
