Hi there! My name is Lori, and my goal is to help students fall in love with learning and achieve their highest potential. I taught elementary school for three years in New York City prior to getting my MBA at Harvard (though I'm a Colorado native, and thrilled to be back)!
My students in NYC were the highest performing cohort in the city in 2014. They achieved a 96% pass rate on the New York State Exams, with over half of them scoring in the "Exceeding" category (in comparison with the school co-located in the same building, which had a 17% pass rate). Let me be forthright: test scores are not everything, not even close. Yes, I bring rigor and precision. But I truly helped my students achieve by infusing joy and creativity into my classroom, and I do the same with tutoring.
I understand that no two students are alike, and create lessons tailored to each child's learning method. Learning isn't linear, it's about continuously understanding each child's unique brain, and how to grow it. My mom is one of Boulder Valley School's most successful teachers for over 35 years, and she instilled in me the importance of placing fun and ingenuity at the foundation of every lesson. The goal is a life-long LOVE of LEARNING!
Covid-19 has been a rough run for everyone, but especially parents. Trying to give kids an education at home, on top of the gamut of usual responsibilities it takes to make a household tick, is no walk in the park. I'm not a mother myself, but I am an auntie, and have seen first hand just how difficult it's been. I'm here to help.
