Knowledge is power, whether you are a student, a healthcare provider, a health-conscious member of the public, just interested in the miracle of DNA, or a patient facing hard news about a genetic diagnosis or confusing answers about genetic risk.

Genetics is complex. My special skill is understanding which part is causing confusion or challenge, and clarifying the mystery right from that point in a simple-to-understand way. For example, I made up this little rhyme for explaining triplet codons and frameshift mutations:
I'm DNA and I'm OCD.
I always follow the rule of 3!

I love to learn and am passionate about helping students to learn, be curious, and succeed. Besides studying molecular biology while training to become a genetic counselor, and since, I have also been a high school biology teacher and have a Higher Education Diploma from South Africa majoring in biology and science teaching. I have taught genetics to dental students and at community college. I wrote a portfolio of biology answers for Argonne's Newton BBS Ask-A-Scientist website.
