Teaching has been an important part of my experiences since I first began as a substitute for the Ithaca City School District (Ithaca, NY) in November of 2012. I have extensive experiences in a range of academic environments beyond this. During the Fall of 2016, I taught an intro to visual arts class as an adjunct faculty at Morrisville State College in Morrisville, New York. While at Indiana University, I taught undergraduate courses as an Associate Instructor. At IU, Associate Instructors are responsible for running sections alone; they are expected to provide lessons, give assignments and grades, keep attendance records, maintain the classroom, and so on. Those who teach through the IU Fundamental Art Department often have strict guidelines for writing syllabi, while instructors who teach through the IU Painting Department are left to write syllabi on their own.
In spring 2015, I taught Drawing 1 through the Painting Department. In the 2015-2016 academic school year, I taught 2D Color and Design through the Fundamental Art Department. I then taught Fundamental Drawing during the first sumer session of 2016 through the Fundamental Art Department. Over the course of spring and summer 2015, I had the opportunity of substitute teaching Painting 1, Painting 2, and Drawing 1 courses at IU on numerous occasions. I’ve been an Ithaca City School District Substitute Instructor, substituting for every subject at all grade levels (K-12), since November 2012, and I exercise this occupation extensively when in the Central New York region.
