I am a professional working artist and an instructor at Red Rocks Community College. I have been teaching drawing and design classes at the collegiate level since 2006. I specialize in Drawing Courses, from Foundation drawing through Advanced Drawing courses, including Figure Drawing. I have also taught Color Theory, and both 2D and 3D Design. I am an interdisciplinary artist with many skill sets including: painting, paper making, sculpture and the fundamental carpentry skills required to build your own canvases and drawing supports.
I am uniquely positioned to help high school students who want to succeed as art majors in college, or want to work on building a portfolio for applying to desired art programs, because I have taught beginning Foundation courses at three universities and two community colleges. I know very well what skill sets and knowledge will help you not only be prepared for art school, but will help you to stand out amongst your peers. I also really enjoy working with adults who want to push their artwork to the next level, and offer a lot of experience and knowledge of both traditional and non-traditional media and techniques for painting and drawing. If you want to heighten your powers of observation, expand the reaches of your creativity, or get more in touch with contemporary art, I can help you. I am passionate about making art, and want to work with others who are as well.
I have a Master's in Fine Art in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor's of Fine Art from the University of Utah. I began teaching at ASU as a graduate student, and was then hired as an Adjunct Professor at Phoenix Community College and Mesa Community College. I was the Interim Professor of Drawing for a one-year Sabbatical replacement at Bloomsbury University. I taught for four years as an Affiliate Faculty member at Metropolitan State University, and now currently teach at Red Rocks Community College.
Whether you are just working on the basic fundamentals of painting and drawing, or
