Bio

I've enjoyed teaching for as long as I can remember. There are few things more rewarding than sharing the "eureka" moment with someone who had given up on understanding. Too often, people see their own lack of understanding as a lack of intelligence. In my experience, it usually means that the teacher explains in a way that doesn't make sense to the student or the student can't see a reason to care about the subject. I've dealt with both of those problems in my own early education.

I was home-schooled up through 5th grade. My mom was learning with me up to a point, but she eventually fell behind. She had forgotten most of the material, and couldn't absorb it as quickly I did. As I began to teach myself at my own pace, I found that the book can only teach from one direction. When I got lost, I had to take a break and go back through the basics. It was terribly tedious at first, but I developed a skill for breaking down a new concept and coming at it from several different directions.

The other problem with teaching yourself from a book is that you rarely find the bulk material interesting. At first, I could get away with doing the subjects I liked and ignoring the ones I didn't. Eventually it caught up to me and I had to spend a full quarter on grammar and history. The solution I found was to dig deeper into the subjects I hated. For example, I found that reading historical fiction taught me grammar by repetition and put the names and dates of my history lessons into a context where I could see why they mattered. Once I found a reason to like the subject, learning didn't seem to take any effort. I think the best thing any teacher could hope for is to inspire a student enough for him to go beyond the lesson plan.

This method proved especially effective for me; earning me a 3.646/4.0 GPA as an undergraduate and a 3.495/4.0 GPA as a masters student at the Colorado School of Mines.

My previous tutoring experience includes teaching my younger brother (who suffers from ADHD) during 8th grade using the k12 program,

Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

I've earned a B.S and an M.S in Chemical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. I've been asked for help by classmates and fraternity brothers regularly throughout my education and have never been unable to help in an area related to chemical engineering. Lastly, I managed to finish the Mines research qualifying exam with a perfect score.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I earned A's in Ordinary Differential Equations, Applied Mathematics in Chemical Engineering (analytical solutions to partial differential equations) and Numerical Methods in Chemical Engineering (numerical solutions to partial differential equations). I've tutored classmates in the latter two.
Martial Arts

Martial Arts

I hold a 3rd degree black belt with the Traditional TaeKwon-Do Association. I've been practicing TKD for 12 years and teaching for the City of Westminster for almost 3 years.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I earned A's in organic chemistry 1 and 2. I occasionally ran study sessions for my fraternity in order to prepare them for O-Chem tests. Lastly, I used the gas-phase applications of O-Chem a great deal in my graduate research.
Physics

Physics

I'm currently tutoring a student from Mines in physics 2 (E&M), a student from DU in physics 1(mechanics), and a high school senior in IB physics. Offhand, I don't know how AP physics differs from IB, but I'm sure it will be somewhere in the spectrum of my current students.
Visual Basic

Visual Basic

I'v taken a class focused of using VBA to numerically solve partial differential equations. Afterward, I'v used it to write hundreds of custom equations and subroutines in Microsoft Excel. Most of them were for use in my graduate research.

Physics

Sean was able to explain how to solve physics problems in a way that I could easily relate to in my daily life. He also had me solve some random equations to make sure that I was understanding the steps that we had covered. I plan on working with Sean on a continued basis. I would highly recommend him.

Patient Tutor

He was helpful in explaining concepts and why they followed certain processes and so forth. He took the time to explain the problem even when I was unfamiliar with equations and asked if I have seen them

Mines Tutor

Sean is very knowledgeable about the content in which our son needs to be successful. His thorough report was extremely helpful and we look forward to working with him again.

Sean is my favorite

This man is a great tutor. He doesn't mind backtracking and explaining stuff in different ways to make it easier for you to understand. What a lucky find!

Sean is the GOAT!

Sean explained the 1st law of thermodynamics, and patiently went over some problems with me. He was such a good sport, I will definitely book more sessions with him soon! I recommend him

Sat tutoring

Sean taught me multiple ways to look at the questions and multiple ways on how to solve the problems as well as a couple of short cuts. He helped me with some of the math problems I forgot how to do.

Relatable and Knowledgable

Sean has been helping me with College Algebra. I find math extremely challenging. Sean normalizes the challenges that I face with math and is great at sharing what he struggled with with regarding math as well, which makes him very relatable as a tutor. I highly recommend this tutor for all areas.
