About Steve

I'm a highly experienced tutor with several years of classroom experience, teaching English to Japanese junior high school students and more than 10 years of tutoring in various capacities. I began by tutoring classmates in Math, Science and Economics while in high school and have continued to do so in volunteer roles as an adult, teaching through the Minds Matter and Colorado Youth for a Change organizations.

I was fortunate to attend both the number one college in the country (Williams) and the best-ranked business school in the world (Wharton). I'm eager to impart the same level of understanding and engagement that I enjoy with many quantitative subjects to my students.

I'm currently employed as a finance consultant in the renewable energy industry and eager to fill up my remaining hours with one of my true loves, teaching.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Finance

Several years of finance experience in both work and education.

Financial Accounting

I have years of investment banking experience which requires an in-depth functional understanding of financial statements and the different ways that accounting items can be classified.

Japanese

Five years of Japanese in academic study combined with living in Japan for four have prepared me well to help other native English speakers with the language. I'm happy to teach in both a structured or more relaxed manner. Either way, your fluency and facility with Japanese will be my goal.

Macroeconomics

I majored in economics in college and covered it extensively again while earning my MBA.

Managerial Accounting

I have years of investment banking experience which requires an in-depth functional understanding of financial statements and the different ways that accounting items can be classified.

Microeconomics

Reviewed graphical analysis of economic systems. Steve was did a great job helping me grasp the concepts. Also, he was very patient and had a good demeanor. His communication prior to the meeting was excellent, which made scheduling much easier.
