I began my career as a licensed teacher in Colorado, working with elementary students. I soon branched into middle school and high school classrooms. Those early years shaped my belief that every learner is capable of growth when they feel supported, understood, and encouraged to take risks. I spent my time helping students close achievement gaps, rebuild confidence in subjects they once found intimidating, and discover that learning can be both empowering and enjoyable. That experience taught me how to adapt instruction to different ages, learning styles, and personalities, whether I was guiding a struggling reader one on one or leading a full class through a challenging concept.

In my current work as a test engineer in wireless communications, I bring the same patience, clarity, and problem‑solving mindset to highly technical environments. My background in STEM allows me to explain complex ideas in ways that feel accessible rather than overwhelming. I’ve continued to enjoy tutoring, and I also currently help youth at risk of homelessness strengthen their skills as a volunteer with StandUp for Kids. I draw on both my classroom training and my technical experience to break down difficult material, build strong foundations, and show students how to think through problems step by step.

My tutoring approach is grounded in curiosity, encouragement, and steady progress. I focus on meeting students where they are, identifying the barriers that hold them back, and creating a learning environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes are part of the process. Whether I’m working with younger learners or older students preparing for more advanced coursework, my goal is always the same: to help them feel capable, confident, and proud of what they can achieve.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I recently attended the Diverse Learners Conference in Denver, which has helped me better understand ADD and ADHD as learning styles. I help children set and monitor their own goals in both academics and behavior. I provide multiple modalities (kinesthetic, visual and verbal) to support information processing. I use organizers to promote information retention. When needed, I provide refocusing tasks that simulate both hemispheres of the brain. In addition, I can provide a space that is free from distractions.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I teach mathematical reasoning and logic to support the development of a strong understanding of the function of numbers. I believe meaningful engagement is key to learning about numeric definitions, properties, and procedures. Modeling and solving functions which illustrate story problems related to sciences is one of my favorite tasks!
Calculus

Calculus

Studied Calculus & Differential Equations at The University of Colorado, earning A grades.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am experienced in supporting dyslexia and unidentifiable disabilities displaying similar symptoms. I am familiar with the Take Flight curriculum, and I utilize this approach. I have provided a structured, systematic, multisensory system for gaining phonological awareness to children, aged 7 to 13. At the Diverse Learners Conference in Denver, I developed effective strategies for engaging dyslexic students in meaningful ways. I coach children in segmenting words into individual phonemes, and blending phonemes together into words. I also emphasize rhyming and common English language word patterns.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have done classroom research on instructional skill development and effective mathematical practice. As the result of this research, I developed a tool-kit of lessons that provide a solid foundation in number sense, spatial reasoning and grouping strategies. I ensure students develop strong mathematical reasoning through the use of kinesthetic and visual manipulatives. I provide authentic tasks, and help children build fluency through mathematical games.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I teach mathematical inquiry and reasoning, as well as definitions, rules and procedures. At this level, I emphasize solidifying an understanding of the structure and properties of numbers. I help my students identify appropriate methods for making comparisons between, and drawing conclusions about these numbers. Furthermore, I introduce data and graphs to make predictions and generalizations about patterns, variability, change, and order in number sets.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I use modeling, gradually release of responsibility, repetition, and creative engagement with academic materials to scaffold learning. I stimulate sensory processing through cross-lateral movement routines, breath control activities and other re-focusing techniques. I have used Wilson (Orton-Gillingham) and Lindamood Bella curricula with tier 2 and 3 intervention groups in my first and second grade classroom. I have used Take Flight for individual tutoring, and frequently utilize these strategies with all my students.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I coach students in organizational techniques, note taking, and resource utilization. In addition, I provide instruction in the fundamental concepts of the target subject. To prepare for tests, I help students identify key concepts and organize notes. I am a licensed k-8 educator in the state of Colorado.
Writing

Writing

I work with students to develop their personal voice by accessing their own memories and making connections to texts. I encourage students to engage meaningfully with text by responding in writing. Reader's response offers the opportunity to bolster comprehension, learn orthographic techniques, and practice semantic editing. In creative writing, I also emphasize story planning/idea formation, vocabulary, and editing.

Exceptional tutor - 2nd grade

We selected Hannah to work with our 2nd grader who has been struggling a bit to keep up in reading and math. He is one of the youngest in the class and really needed some creative one-on-one time. Hannah was extremely responsive to my emails and phone calls. She met with me for the first visit, showing me selected books that were exactly what interests him. Her math activities are very creative as well. She has been on time for each session, bringing activities and books completely appropriate and fascinating for our 2nd grader. He loves to draw so she has him creating his own book with his own drawings reflecting words he is learning. When a math assignment from his class did not make sense, Hannah was able to explain it to all of us and work with him to complete the assignment correctly. Our 2nd grader is excited to know she is coming, sits at the kitchen table with her for an hour without fidgeting at all. He is proud of his work, excited to show how carefully he can write, can explain his math assignments and has bonded with Hannah very well. Hannah combines expertise working with a 7 year old with activities that show results after each session. She is patient but also keeps things moving, pushing him just enough to keep him challenged without the frustration he has been feeling. I am a college professor and am very impressed with her style, knowledge, presentation, and the work they complete each session. We are so glad we found her and will be using her for bi-lingual learning once he is up to speed in core subjects. I would strongly recommend Hannah as an excellent tutor!

Great First Lesson

Hannah is going to make a great tutor for Jimmy. She quickly zoned in on the areas that he needs work in. I can tell by his spelling and punctuation after his first small written story with her, that this is exactly what he needs. Thanks Hannah.

A Big Help

Hannah has been a big help to my son. His writing grades dropped to a C on his second trimester report card. We hired Hannah and after working with her for two months once a week he is now back up to B. We plan on having her work with him all summer to help him prepare for middle school. I have no doubt he'll be doing A level work at that point. My son enjoys his sessions with Hannah. She gets the job done and keeps him on task all while making it interesting and fun.

Great tutor!

Hannah worked with my 6 year old daughter who had been struggling with reading in Kindergarden and at the start of the first grade. My daughter showed extremely high improvement over the time that she worked with Hannah, and she is now firmly at grade level. Hannah was very professional and communicative to me as a parent. She shared with me the different tools and tricks that she was using to help my daughter progress and what she perceived as her strengths and what she thought she should pay special attention to.
