About Kirk

I love teaching, and will enjoy patiently getting students over what for many is the hurdle of the topic. I can also help them through Microsoft Word and Excel and several other topics. I would hate to see anyone be unable to go forward in education or life by tripping up on some of these fairly basic subjects.

I am very experienced in SAS, having written SAS applications on mainframes, UNIX and Windows. I have passed the Base SAS certification test.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

My pastor has complimented me on my Bible teaching ability. I have extensive experience teaching teenagers and adults. I can help with questions about both the Old and New Testaments. I am skilled in the use of Bible study software and Internet resources.

Business

I have an MBA and 35 years of combined business and Information Technology experience. I can help you with questions about microeconomics, finance, marketing and marketing research, computers, linear programming, managing innovation, organization design and leadership, industry analysis and strategy. I can also advise you on entrepreneurship, often able to come up with creative solutions to enhance a proposed or existing business.

COBOL

I programmed in COBOL from 1973 to 2000 on mainframes and minicomputers. I both developed and maintained programs with both sequential and database file accesses.

Computer Programming

I have 35 years of software development expertise, in COBOL, SAS and Basic. I have also done software quality assurance and datacenter supervision. If you would like to see my resume I'd be happy to send it to you.

Computer Science

I can help a computer science student understand the theory behind why an operating system or database operates the way it does. I would enjoy helping you understand why computers must operate the way they do. I have 35 years of software development expertise, in COBOL, SAS and Basic. I have been familiar with the internal workings of operating systems, databases and telecommunications software. That was on mainframes, but I have noticed that the concepts are very similar on PCs.

General Computer

I am a very experienced computer software developer, with experience on mainframes with COBOL and SAS. I have also done software quality assurance and datacenter supervision. I have experience with Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft Access

I have developed software in Microsoft Access and used SQL, the basis of Microsoft Access, in many other database applications.

Microsoft Windows

I have been a Microsoft Windows user since it was pioneered in the early 90's and have developed software for Microsoft Windows. I am a veteran software developer with over 30 years of experience.

SAS

I am base SAS certified through the SAS Institute.
