Hi! I’m Julia, a fourth-year medical student with a strong background in science. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan and am currently completing my medical degree at RVUCOM. I specialize in tutoring anatomy, biology, microbiology, and other health and life sciences, as well as MCAT, USMLE, and COMLEX preparation. Throughout medical school, I have earned honors in my clinical rotations and scored a 261 on USMLE Step 2 CK and a 713 on COMLEX Level 2. Teaching has been an important part of my education from high school through medical school. I have more than four years of teaching and tutoring experience across a variety of science courses and academic levels. Most recently, I have taught anatomy to high school students and helped design and teach an introductory clinical course for third-year medical students at my institution. During my undergraduate education, I also led weekly study groups for molecular biology and microbiology. These experiences have taught me how to break complicated topics into manageable steps and adapt my explanations to each student’s learning style and needs. I enjoy working with students at a variety of levels and adapting our sessions to their individual goals, whether they are trying to understand a difficult science course, develop more effective study strategies, or prepare for a high-stakes exam. I want tutoring sessions to be collaborative and low-pressure. As a student myself, I understand firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to learn a large volume of complex information. My goal is not only to help you improve your understanding and academic performance, but also to help you develop effective study strategies and greater confidence that you can carry forward independently. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to tell me a little about what you’re studying and what you hope to accomplish. I’d be happy to discuss your goals and determine how we can structure our sessions to best support you!

Approved Subjects

Anatomy

Anatomy

I have studied anatomy extensively throughout my undergraduate and medical education, including gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, musculoskeletal anatomy, organ systems, and the relationships between anatomical structures and their functions. As a medical student, I have reinforced this knowledge through cadaver dissection, physical examination, medical imaging, clinical rotations, and hands on experience in the operating room. I also have experience teaching anatomy to high school students and medical students, which has taught me how to explain the same concept at different levels of complexity depending on a student’s background. I use diagrams, models, clinical examples, and memory strategies to make anatomy more visual and approachable for students ranging from those encountering the subject for the first time to those preparing for advanced health science coursework
Microbiology

Microbiology

As a fourth-year medical student, I have an extensive background in microbiology through my medical school curriculum, board preparation, and clinical training. As a tutor, I focus on making microbiology less dependent on rote memorization by teaching from the “big picture” down. I do this by first organizing organisms into meaningful groups and then building in the distinguishing characteristics, diseases, and treatments that students need to know. I incorporate memory tools, associations, visual frameworks, and pattern recognition to help students retain challenging details and differentiate between easily confused organisms. I know firsthand how overwhelming this subject can be to learn and aim to teach in a way that feels helpful and attainable for my students.
Physiology

Physiology

The first 2 years of my graduate education have been focused on learning the physiology and pathophysiology of the human body. One of the best ways I found to learn this was to teach my peers, starting my experience tutoring physiology at an advanced level. I work through complex physiologic mechanisms from a "top down" perspective and aim to show students that they can find recognizable patterns in the human body and once they learn these, the details make much more sense.
