Software Engineer Excited to Elevate your Programming Skills

Don T.

Hello! My name's Don. I've been a Software Engineer for the last 5 years, specializing in mobile app development. I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Gordon College and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Oregon State University. Before going back to school for Computer Science, I taught guitar and drum lessons full time for 6 years, working one-on-one with students of all ages and skill levels.

I love my job as an engineer. Working for a consultancy, I have had the opportunity to work on many different apps for many different clients. I've worked on projects for small startups and for large enterprise clients with as many as 20 million users. As exciting as the engineering work has been, my favorite part of the job has been mentoring junior developers and leading workshops on development techniques, software architecture, and other programming concepts. I've missed being a teacher. Watching my students grow and gain confidence has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career.

I always customize my lessons and approach for the individual student. If a student is struggling, I pride myself on asking the right questions to uncover what exactly isn’t clicking. My background in both mathematics and computer science has taught me the importance of breaking complicated ideas into smaller, intuitive pieces and building from a strong foundation. By breaking complex concepts down to their roots, I can help my students understand not just how something works, but why.

I'm here to combine my diverse experience and skill set and help you gain a deeper understanding of Computer Science and Programming. I can't wait to help you unlock the creativity and possibilities these skills can offer.
