I'm Richard, a 20-year veteran of teaching at the university level and leading complex arts organizations. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theatre with a minor in Political Science, as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Directing. I have taught a wide variety of classes--and not just in the arts--throughout my career. I was Head of the Department of Theatre at Colorado Mesa University, where I taught theatre, speech, and academic success courses, as well as Director of the Arts at Castleton University in Vermont, where I oversaw Master's thesis students in theatre as well as creating and leading the university's graduate program in arts administration. I'm also a professional director, performer, and producer, and have years of experience coaching high-level clients in public speaking and presentation delivery.
My philosophy in tutoring mirrors how I facilitate a class or a rehearsal--it's not your job to learn my language, but mine to learn yours. I am quick to forge strong, trusting, and meaningful relationships with my students and use accessible but rigorous pedagogy to help you achieve your goals. Perhaps even more importantly, I am an instructor who can INSPIRE you to find something in yourself you may not even know is there. Through the use of questioning, innovative approaches to content, and a great sense of humor, we can work together to find the success you're seeking.
Whether you're trying to hone your writing, get your head around the complex historical & societal context in which we're living, or gain confidence in public speaking, I will be with you every step of the way. That's my promise to you and your family--nothing is more important.
