Hello! My name is Allison and I'm excited to work with you! I knew in 6th grade that I wanted to become a math teacher. I'm now 26 years into my career and am still loving that decision.

A bit about my background: I earned my BA in Mathematics from Wheaton College (IL) and my Master's in Education from American Pathways University. I also completed 18 graduate credits in mathematics from Colorado State University. I taught high school math for 17 years, most of which were at an alternative high school for students who had dropped out or had been expelled. For many of these students, math had been a major obstacle in their previous academic experience. We focused on individual and small groups to personalize the instruction as much as possible. I then switched to the community college level, where I focus on first year courses (mostly College Algebra and Finite Math) and their related support lab groups. I have also been a tutor and coordinator of the college tutoring center, helping students from all levels of math.

In any of these environments, my passion is for students who have struggled in math and/or have anxiety about it. As long as you're willing to be open to working with me, I'm ready to meet you wherever you are in your math journey!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is hands-down my favorite of all subjects. I have been working with algebra students for 26 years now, both in high school and college levels. My favorite thing about teaching is helping students go from "This just isn't making any sense" to "Ok, maybe this isn't so bad" to "Hey, I actually understand this!" Let's get you to that last point with your algebra work!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have been working with algebra students for 26 years now. I taught Algebra 2 in high schools for 17 years and now teach College Algebra ("Algebra 2 on steroids") at my community college. My favorite thing about teaching is helping students go from "This just isn't making any sense" to "Ok, maybe this isn't so bad" to "Hey, I actually understand this!" Let's get you to that last point with your algebra work!
Finite Math

Finite Math

I have been teaching Finite Math for 5+ years now. I am the Subject Matter Expert for the Colorado Community College System, meaning that I have selected and edited our textbook and all teaching materials that are used throughout the state.
GED

GED

Congratulations on pursuing your GED! I taught at an alternative high school for 12 years, providing a second chance at education for students who weren't having a successful experience in their high schools. I know that there are A LOT of reasons why somebody doesn't finish high school. I now teach at my community college, including teaching a class for adult learners to earn their high school diplomas. I am well prepared to figure out what you DO know so that we can build on that foundation to equip you to pass your GED exam. You can do this and I'm excited to help you get there!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the main building block for your future math courses. It is super important to not just get through it, but to have a strong foundation for WHY you're doing each step. I have taught high school and college courses for the last 26 years and one of my strengths as a teacher is filling in the gaps in a student's math background (usually prealgebra skills) that have been causing problems in their current work. Let's get you on the right path to having that strong foundation from the beginning! I'm excited to work with you!

very good at connecting and explaining proccesses in order

my first impression with ms.allison was we explained are backround and got to know each other and what you want to gain from the lessons ms.allison is very passionate and professional about her work and i told her a little bit about myself so she has an understanding about my level of math after that we got right to work and the way ms.allison teaches is she makes sure you understand every single detail before moving on compared to other math teachers that just read the text book and move on to the next page. and if your a student reading this just know no matter how hopless or far behind you are dont give up on yourself !!!
