This course is designed to help students build a strong foundation in music theory through clear explanations, practical examples, and real-world applications. With years of experience teaching students at various levels — from beginners to advanced musicians — I understand how to break down complex concepts into manageable steps, making theory both accessible and meaningful. Students will gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also the ability to apply these skills directly to their playing, composing, and ensemble work. Whether preparing for auditions, exams, or personal growth, this course will give students the tools to confidently analyze, understand, and express music.

In teaching, I care about building good Sound quality, Air control, and Breathing habits -- I will help you build good habits, and make you feel the joy of music-making. You will learn the fundamental skills of the instrument and build confidence at your own pace. Background: Bachelor's degree in Trumpet Performance and Master's and Doctoral degrees in Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin. I performed in various wind ensembles and orchestras and taught trumpet and ensemble leading in colleges, high schools, middle schools, and private studios.

Awesome Instructor!

Kerwin is an absolutely excellent instructor. I highly recommend him! Every lesson I really improve. He's really great at explaining what to do and how to practice so you improve. He plays the notes so you know how it should sound, and if you miss the note, he knows what you are doing wrong and can tell you how to fix it. I really feel lucky to have someone this good teach me.
