Hi! I’m Emilie, a certified teacher and native French speaker with 16 years of experience teaching math in middle and high schools, both in France and the US. After teaching for 8 years at the Lycée Français de New York, I moved to Colorado. I currently teach math at an online school and tutor in both math and French.

In math, I have extensive experience working with students from 4th to 12th grade on topics including algebra, geometry, calculus, and probability. In French, I help students prepare for classes, tests, and the DELF, feel at ease in conversation, and strengthen their grammar, conjugation, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading comprehension, and writing. For homeschooled students and adult learners, I build each lesson around their hobbies and interests.

I also support students enrolled in CNED (the French national distance-learning program) or in French schools abroad, helping them follow their coursework, prepare their assignments, and get ready for the brevet and baccalauréat exams.

Whether I’m tutoring or teaching a class, my main focus is helping students gain confidence. Too many kids and teenagers struggle because they don’t believe in themselves. I pay close attention to what each student needs, which can change depending on their circumstances: practice, extra explanation, reassurance, or test prep. I’m here to adapt my methods to suit them.

I live in Lakewood and offer sessions online, or in person in the Denver area.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in applied mathematics, and I have taught math in middle and high schools in France and the US for 16 years. Algebra 1 is where math becomes more abstract, and many students who did well before suddenly feel lost when letters replace numbers. I cover the full course, including linear equations and inequalities, slope and graphing lines, systems of equations, functions, exponents, polynomials, factoring, and an introduction to quadratic equations. I always connect equations to their graphs and to real situations, so students understand what they are solving instead of just memorizing steps.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in applied mathematics, and I have taught math in middle and high schools in France and the US for 16 years. Algebra 2 asks students to work with many new types of functions at once, and I help them see the common thread so the course feels connected rather than like a long list of separate rules. I cover quadratic and polynomial functions, rational expressions and equations, radicals and complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions, and sequences and series. I pay special attention to the skills students will need in their next courses, so they finish Algebra 2 with a solid base for more advanced math.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

In addition to 16 years of teaching math in middle and high schools, I have worked as a substitute teacher in elementary schools, so I am comfortable with younger learners and how they learn best. Because I have also taught the grades that come after, I know which elementary skills students will need most later on and why a solid foundation matters so much. I help children with place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication tables, division, fractions, decimals, measurement, and word problems, depending on their grade level. I keep lessons patient and encouraging, using concrete examples and visual models, because this is the age when a child decides whether they are “good at math,” and I want them to leave each session believing they are.
French

French

I am a native French speaker with extensive knowledge of school expectations in both France and the US. I tutor American students learning French, French students enrolled in CNED or attending French schools abroad, homeschooled children, and adults. With students in school, I follow their curriculum closely to reinforce what they learn in class, from grammar and conjugation to reading comprehension and writing, and I help them prepare for tests and exams such as the brevet and the DELF language certification.. With homeschooled children and adults, I build each lesson around their interests and goals, so that learning French feels relevant to their lives and stays motivating.
Geometry

Geometry

Over 16 years of teaching middle and high school math in France and the US, I have taught geometry at every level, from basic shapes and angles to formal proofs. Geometry is often a turning point for students, because it asks them to reason and justify their answers rather than just calculate, and many need help learning how to write a clear proof. I cover congruence and similarity, properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles, the Pythagorean theorem and right triangle trigonometry, transformations, coordinate geometry, and area and volume. I encourage students to draw and visualize each problem before solving it, and I teach them a step-by-step method for building proofs, so the logic starts to feel natural instead of intimidating.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in education, and a master’s degree in applied mathematics, and I have taught math in middle and high schools in France and the US for 16 years. Prealgebra is a key step in middle school, and I have seen how it is often where students either build their confidence in math or start to lose it. I help students master the skills they need before moving on to algebra, including fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages, negative numbers, order of operations, and solving simple equations. When a student struggles, I go back to the idea behind each method and use concrete examples until it makes sense, so they can move on to algebra feeling ready.
