Hello! My name is Jarrid, and I am looking to help high school or college students in their math/programming classes. I am a passionate educator with a proven track record of teaching/tutoring at nearly every level of math, including high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry, SAT prep, as well as college level algebra and calculus. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from UCCS, where I was a Graduate Teaching Fellow for 2.5 years.
As a GTF I taught college algebra and business calculus as well as served as a teaching assistant/grader for differential equations and linear algebra, where I consistently received praise from both my mentors and students alike. During this time, I also taught math and computer programming to local high school students in a summer program called Upward Bound, where I was also consistently praised as the students’ favorite instructor. I was so successful that, after I finished graduate school, the Upward Bound program wanted to keep me on as an instructor. Therefore, I currently teach SAT prep classes and STEM workshops once a month on Saturdays during the Spring semester.
During my undergraduate career, I worked as a math tutor at Red Rocks Community College for 2 years, tutoring all levels of math from pre-algebra through differential equations and discrete math. Moreover, I have over ten years of general programming experience, and I also work full-time as a data scientist/software developer. My main expertise is in Python, which I use on a daily basis, but I also have experience in most common programming languages, such as C++, Java, Go, and JavaScript.
As an educator, I use an inquiry based approach, wherein I guide my student(s) through a question-and-answer format to discover the answer for themselves. I believe that this approach leads to a greater internalization of the information, which I have personally observed in my students.
