I'm a multiple Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker. I've produced films and series for broadcast news (CBS REPORTS), national public television (PBS), and cable; I currently serve as a consulting producer for historical documentary projects. I'm also an enthusiastic educator, dedicated to helping high school and college students to write confidently about themselves.

My goal is to make the writing process achievable. I use my extensive journalism background to show you how asking and answering probing questions can yield a personal statement (or application essay) that stands out. As we brainstorm, I will guide you to draw on compelling aspects of your life, encouraging you to reveal your strengths, vulnerabilities, and dreams. I had to develop exceptional communication skills as a journalist and expert interviewer. By guiding you to focus on details you might otherwise discount or overlook, I can show you how to strengthen your narrative for maximum impact. I aim to make writing enjoyable (and even exciting!) as we work through the editing process, applying techniques that will impress admissions boards.

Currently, I tutor students (in person and online) at writing centers in the Colorado Community College system where I collaborate effectively with learners of all ages. After earning my B.A. in English Lit (minor in education) I taught for several years at a suburban New York public high school, before moving into broadcast journalism (in Washington, D.C.) and subsequently, documentary filmmaking (where I was based in New York City). I’ve built a career telling important real-life stories with memorable characters and well-executed scripts. I bring those skills to tutoring and my years of experience mentoring young filmmakers. I am a patient coach – but passionate! I welcome the chance to help you discover how to say what you truly want to say with clarity and style.
