College Counseling

College Counseling

Students I have worked with have recently been admitted to the following schools: Dartmouth, Bucknell, Lafayette, Fordham, University of Colorado, Colorado College, Smith, Lewis and Clark, Colorado State University, University of San Francisco, St. Olaf, and Chapman (among many others). Whether you have just started to think about your college essay/personal statement, only have some ideas, or actually have a draft, I'm here to help. During my time as a high school English teacher, I have helped hundreds of students with personal statements, supplemental essays, and applications for scholarships. In addition, I have assisted students with the creation of college lists, navigating the Common App, and evaluating acceptance offers given their unique talents and circumstances. At the beginning of each summer, my high school offers a "boot camp" to rising seniors and being part of this program has given me the opportunity to assist students with many steps of the college application process. This has been a particularly rewarding experience because I've watched students move from the brainstorming stage of writing a personal statement to a final, polished essay ready to be submitted as part of the college application.

English

I have taught English at one of the best public high schools in Colorado for more than 25 years. During that time, I've taught every grade at both the college prep and honors level. Each year I teach fiction, non-fiction, grammar and mechanics, writing (literary analysis, expository, narrative, memoir, rhetorical analysis, persuasive/argument pieces, college essay, etc.), vocabulary, and poetry. Works that I have extensive experience teaching include the following: The Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Siddhartha, To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, Death of a Salesman, Fences, House Made of Dawn, Native Son, The Color Purple, The Bluest Eye, Othello, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Hamlet, Much Ado about Nothing, Julius Caesar, among many others.

huge asset for your college application journey!

Sarah has been incredibly helpful to us as we are honing our college list to be realistic yet ambitious, and make the application process as successful as possible. She is well-versed in essay writing and has a wide knowledge of the common app. She has a solid understanding of what admissions counselors look for in an application and essay. We are planning to meet with her again, as she will be the perfect person to guide us as my son continues working on his personal essay and college applications. I would recommend Sarah to anyone who is at any point in their college application journey! It’s an overwhelming process and Sarah makes it so much easier!

Great guidance

Sarah worked with my daughter to brainstorm ideas for her college personal essay. We both feel so much better now that we have some guidance and a mapped out plan to move forward with. Looking forward to our next session!

I appreciate the effort

I learned a lot from you; for example, I learned how to appropriately connect the information between sources to my writing, structure my body paragraphs, and write an effective conclusion. I look forward to having you teach me again.

Exceptional AP Art History Instructor

Sarah embodies the ideal teaching personality, demonstrating both a deep passion for art history and an engaging teaching style, both interested and interesting. Her enthusiasm for tracing the threads of artistic influence across different periods is striking. Despite my child's initial hesitation with new tutors, Sarah quickly established a connection, and within the first hour, my child was already requesting to extend the lesson. I strongly recommend Sarah; I promise that you will not regret choosing her.
