Org. Chem. Professor on Sabbatical ( >12 years teaching)

I have been Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL since 2010. I have taught Organic Chemistry in undergraduate and graduate courses during this time. In addition to teaching these classes, I have an active research group composed of undergraduates and students working towards their Ph.D. degrees. Therefore, I have practical knowledge of the Organic Chemistry and how it can be applied in the laboratory.

I am currently on a Sabbatical from this position and in the Denver area working at NREL for this academic year. I would like to work with students who are interested in getting immediate feedback for how they think about Organic Chemistry problems. During my time as a faculty member, I have made initiatives to address student learning outcomes by working outside typical office hours buy going to residence halls on campus for open study sessions as well as initiating 'honor' sections that provided group learning sessions on the subjects being covered in class. I have always had great enjoyment when working with students one-on-one and seeing them become grow in their confidence in the subject.

As a Chemistry Professor teaching Organic Chemistry for 12+ years, I have interacted with many students who have struggled with this subject and know where many fail at comprehension. I have written the exams that test students to see if they truly understand the concept or have only memorized small samples of what is needed to know to master the course.

The subject can be easy for some but the most difficult ever experienced for others. During this time away from my normal university teaching duties, I would like to work with students who need immediate feedback on how to problem solve in Organic Chemistry. I have many years of experience, exam materials, and study guides that I would be happy to work you on.
