I am a University of Minnesota graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I held my Minnesota teaching license for over twenty years. During those years, I worked as an elementary school substitute teacher.
A few years ago, my husband, son and I moved to Colorado Springs to enjoy better weather. Shortly after, I transitioned to working solely online for flexibility. I've been tutoring through Wyzant for over four years. I absolutely LOVE my job!
My background as a substitute teacher gives me an advantage. As a sub, I taught all subjects in every elementary grade. I worked with countless teachers, teaching styles, strategies, and curriculums. Working with a variety of teachers showed me teaching strategies that work. I learned tricks to help make sense of difficult subjects! Moreover, I have a broad sense of where my students need to be in their learning future. I consider this in my lessons.
Although I’m comfortable teaching most subjects, I mostly enjoy reading and math. I have much experience working in Special Education and Reading/Math intervention. I do well with students who have learning challenges. I also do well with students who are beyond grade level and need enrichment. I have a lot of patience and an abundance of empathy.
My lessons are centered around the current standards of learning. I'm also familiar with the Science of Reading which is the current public school reading philosophy. I use a variety of teaching tools so I can cater to the individual needs of each student.
Lastly, I've developed a passion for homeschooled students while tutoring on Wyzant. I've provided guidance and support for several homeschool students and their parents. If you are a parent/educator who needs assistance with homeschooling, I'm happy to help!
