Bio

I am a retired physicist who consulted for the Department of Defense for 36 years. I had my own company providing technical consulting services. I am also an ordained minister in the Lutheran church. I have spent my whole life teaching. I started back in 1980 when I tutored math and physics students on campus at Santa Clara University. I also taught classes at Santa Clara when my professors had conflicting schedules. I started a tutoring business in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1998-2002. I tutored high school students in math and physics while studying at Concordia Seminary. I still teach Greek, Hebrew, and the Old and New Testaments on a regular basis. I also tutor high school students from my congregation. Math is my favorite subject to teach. My wife, Valerie, and I have one son who is 31 years old and lives with his wife in Phoenix, AZ. We enjoy tennis, horseback riding, reading, and studying the Bible.

I have been teaching math for 39 years. When I was in college fellow students needed help with calculus. Once word gets out that you know how to teach that subject... there is always someone struggling with calculus. I am a regular consumer of The Great Courses math series. I have benefited from their styles and techniques. I also watch 3Blue1Brown and Brilliant (two YouTube math series). Richard Feynman, one of the great physicists of the 20th century was an early inspiration. His excitable and visual style is akin to mine.

If you hate math and just want to be done with it, I can not only help you get the best grade possible, I can help you come away with a genuine life-long connection to this wonderful symbol system as well as the tools to better interact with the "math folks" you will undoubtedly run across for the rest of your life. Math isn't fun. It's exercise for the mind. No one thinks the treadmill is fun. But you feel get after a workout. That's what I can promise.
